Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Murder at Castle Nathria Week 7 – September 2022

I skipped the post last week, because a balance update was released two days earlier, meaning that I didn’t have enough decks to post. But right now, over a week after the patch, we got some results. The decks that were hit the most – Ramp Druid, Skeleton/Hero Power Mage, Miracle Rogue – did indeed see a massive decrease in play rate and win rate. So nerfs turned out to be successful, right? Well, that’s true – we’ve seen some meta changes. However, the sad part is that two worst classes – Warrior and Paladin – are still struggling in Tier 3-4, and things aren’t looking that great for them. On the other hand, one of the decks that were already solid and didn’t get hit at all is now dominating – XL Beast Hunter seems to be the best decks in the game at all ranks. Maybe outside of high Legend, because you can target some popular decks much more efficiently there, and since Beast Hunter struggles a bit against Priest (mostly Combo/Miracle variant, but Naga also works quite well), Priest is very popular up there to counter Hunter.

Another big problem with the meta is popularity of some Neutral cards – mostly Theotar, the Mad Duke, Sire Denathrius, Brann Bronzebeard and Prince Renathal. Those four are present in 45-50% of decks on the ladder and that’s honestly really crazy. We’re at the point that if I post a deck without Theotar, people ask why Theotar is not included nearly every single time. But it’s worth noting that the popularity of the first three cards are closely tied to the popularity of 40-cards (so-called “XL”) builds. It’s hard to pack your 40 cards with class cards, so you end up having to pick a few Neutrals. Given that XL decks are mostly Midrange and slower, cards like Brann, Theotar and Sire are natural fits. Nearly every XL deck runs those too, because there are simply no better options.

The next opportunity for a meta shift is mini-set, which should be coming out pretty soon – if I had to guess, I would say the last week of September or the first week of October. Hearthstone’s official social media pages have been posting a lot of clues suggesting that Denathrius might be alive after all (after the whole murder mystery of the main expansion) – which most likely ties into the mini-set. So I would assume that it’s coming sooner or later, I would expect some bigger teasers soon and maybe even some card reveals soon. As for how mini-set will affect the meta – it’s obviously impossible to predict, but so far the mini-sets ranged from “almost no impact” to “medium impact”. We would need to get some really insane cards for it to completely change the meta, but I doubt that we would want that anyway. My biggest concern is whether the Neutral package listed above is still going to be a problem after it’s out – and I think that the answer is yes. We’ll probably need some balance changes to the likes of Theotar and Denathrius shortly after the mini-set.

Hearthstone Wild Legend Decks of the Week

Since Wild Heroic Tavern Brawl was live this week, most of the Wild decks are posted are from the Brawl. However, most of them are good meta decks that should work on the ladder, so I’ll post them here too.
