How-to Save Money on Hearthstone Packs with Amazon Coins

You save money on packs by purchasing Amazon Coins. Each coin translates into $0.01 in terms of Hearthstone packs. So 299 Amazon Coins is $2.99 which will get you 2 packs. Purchasing coins in higher quantities increases your savings, and here’s how it breaks down:

(Prices last updated: January 1st, 2018)

  • 500 Coins = $4.90 (Savings of $0.10 or 2%)
  • 1,000 Coins = $9.70 (Savings of $.30 or 3%)
  • 2,500 Coins = $24.00 (Savings of $1.00 or 4%)
  • 5,000 Coins = $47.00 (Savings of $3.00 or 6%)
  • 10,000 Coins = $83.00 (Savings of $17.00 or 17%)
  • 50,000 Coins = $375.00 (Savings of $125.00 or 25%)

Amazon changed how they structured their deals. They used to give you less upfront savings and give you coins back after a purchase, but now you just get better savings! They also recently added 50,000 coins which is the highest percentage of savings.

Because of how Blizzard and Amazon have structured the coin and pack prices certain tiers are better than others. Here is a look at the savings (Prices last updated: January 1st, 2018):

Coins Coin Cost Packs Pack Cost Savings
1,000 $9.70 7 $9.99 $0.29
5,000 $47.00 40 $49.99 $2.99
10,000 $83.00 80 $99.98 $16.98
50,000 $375.00 400 $499.99 $124.99

Amazon Coins Coin Tax

Unless Amazon is running a pretty deep sale on coins or offering coins back to you when you purchase an item you are likely only to save very little and this is due to the coin tax. If you are in an area that has sales tax you won’t be taxed when you purchase the actual coins, but you WILL be taxed a “coin tax” when you go to purchase your Hearthstone packs. This means your purchase of what you’d expect to be 4,999 coins for 40 packs could be in the 5,200 coin range.

If you are in one of these areas, then I’d recommend only purchasing Amazon Coins when there’s a big sale on them or they are running a kickback promotion (you get coins back when you make a coins purchase).

Why are Streamers, YouTubers, and Websites Promoting Amazon Coins?

The entire reason you see Amazon Coin promotion is that if you purchase coins through a content creators link they get a percentage of the purchase. Hearthstone Top Decks is no different, if you purchase through our link we get a percentage of the purchase, and this helps keep the website going. In a world where most people use ad blocking software, affiliate links (links that once clicked on, give a percentage of the purchase to the referrer) are one of the few ways websites can make money. This isn’t necessarily a negative, but just be careful when purchasing the coins because it’s not always a good deal regardless of the information you are receiving.

How-to Buy Hearthstone Packs with Amazon Coins

If you already have an Android Tablet or Phone, then it is really easy. Install the Amazon Underground App Store, Install Hearthstone through the Amazon App Store (remove your current version of Hearthstone if you have one), purchase coins through this link, use the coins to purchase packs in game!

If you don’t have an Android device, then this process gets a bit more complicated. You can, however, still get packs via an Android Emulator (it’s free). Here’s a step-by-step process on how to accomplish this:

Hearthstone Amazon Coins PC Android Emulator Guide

Download MEmu Android Emulator. This is the best one I’ve used, other ones are slow, and force you to download a bunch of apps. Install the Emulator, start it up and let it run through the installation/update process.

Once this is installed, click the browser button to the bottom left.

In the search bar at the top of the screen type in “download amazon appstore”.

Click the link that reads: “Download Amazon App Store”.

Then click on the Get Amazon Underground button.

I had to click “Retry download” because it didn’t start automatically, but it might work for you.

Click Browser and then “Just Once” just in case you want to use this later.

This is going to start the download, click, hold, and drag down the black bar above the browser that has small icons on the left and right side. If you can’t find this, click the circle button at the bottom right of the emulator (this will bring you to the home screen). Then click the downloads icon at the bottom of the screen.

You should see the Amazon_App-1.apk file downloading, once that is complete click on it. From here, scroll to the bottom of this page which will enable you to click Install.

Once installed it should give you the option to open the app in the bottom right of the screen. When this opens, you will need to login with your account or create a new one. After you login you will be given the following screen, click on “Just take me to Amazon Shopping”.

In the search bar type in “hearthstone” and click on the Hearthstone app.

Hit the Install button on the top right.

Again you will need to scroll down to enable the install link. Install the Hearthstone app. Once it is installed, click open and Hearthstone will run through updates. After the updates are over, click sign in, if you are given a prompt about a Google Drive account, just click no. Sign into the account you play Hearthstone with.

So this is the point in the process where it’s better to purchase the Amazon Coins you need on your computer. The Hearthstone client in these emulators can sometimes be sluggish and buggy. If you use the following link to purchase the coins, it helps support the site, so we really appreciate it!

Once you’ve purchased your coins, click the Shop button at the bottom left of your screen. In my case, I’m going to be pre-ordering Journey to Un’Goro, but the process will be the same if you are just buying packs. Select what you want to purchase, and hit the Buy button (this won’t charge you anything yet).

You will be prompted with a screen similar to this one below. Make sure to pay attention to the “coins tax” under the actual coin cost. In certain areas you have to pay this coin tax, so make sure you have enough coins to continue. In my case, I am receiving 500 coins for free because of a special deal with pre-ordering Journey to Un’Goro packs. When you’re ready, click Buy Item.

You will be sent to a screen to confirm your in-App purchase. I go ahead and require a password for future in-app purchases just to be safe. Once you hit continue here, it can sometimes take a little while to process your order so just be patient and you should eventually get a “Purchase Complete!” prompt.

My last recommendation is that you don’t open your packs in the emulator. Like I mentioned before, these emulators are fairly slow so it’s a pretty laggy experience for the most part.

That’s it! I hope this helps you save money and gets you all the legendaries you were hoping for! If you have any questions feel free to comment below.

Hi, Does anyone know if there’s a discount for Amazon Coins now on Prime Day? Specifically in Germany? I want to buy the mega-bundle for Boomsday and maybe also have enough coins for the preorder of the third expansion. But so far I haven’t seen any deals in Amazon Prime Day yet…

Your Amazon coin pitch is misleading. When you include the Amazon coins sale tax, you don’t save the amounts listed. Also, you have to over-buy coins to reach the correct denominations. You can’t buy 10,000 coins, then get 80 packs. You would have to buy 10,000 coins + the sales tax.

      November 25, 2017 at 7:43 pm

you my friend are absolutely correct, so we aren’t actually saving as much as they claim we are saving because what I’ve learned is that…. You purchase 10,000 coins, you also have to buy another 1,000 to cover the sales tax. I also think that it’s stupid that we’re spending money on these coins with no sales tax, yet when we spend them there’s sales tax.

In the tutorial above you were able to pre-purchase Ungoro with coins through that emulator. However at this time it looks like Frozen Throne does not appear in the store in the app. Does this mean you can’t pre-purchase this expac with coins?

    • Carson

Nevermind, I answered my own question. In order to put the pre-purchase in the in app Blizzard will need to release a patch so I’m assuming the upcoming balance patch along with reintroduction of wild packs will also bring the pre-purchase to the app (thus allowing purchase with coins).

A comment to the situation in germany:
    5000 coins = 46€
    Pre-order un’goro = 44,99€ = 4499 coins
So you have 501 coins leftover + 225 cashback coins

    45 – 46 + 7,26 = 6,26€ profit

BUT: it took me 7 day to finish this transaction!!!

Hey, I’m interested in this, and I need to know whether or not tax is applied on the amount of coins with purchase of the packs. I know that the article itself says that coin tax may apply, however that doesn’t give me any definite answers and I’m looking for some user experience on it. I live in the US if that helps.

Was able to follow the Reddit link to install the Android emulator on my PC. Once I bought the coins, it took almost a day for the coins to show up in my account. Was able to pre-purchase Old Gods and buy packs with the coins ok through the emulator.

Only thing is, I’m getting charged more coins. $50 purchase whether for classic packs or for pre-purchase Old Gods cost 5454 coins rather than the 4999. Tax I guess? (I live in KS) Still got the 10% back deal, so the 500 coins earned evened it out.

If you use Discover Card, one of their cash back redemption opportunities is $45 for a $50 CVS pharmacy gift card. You can then use that to buy Amazon gift cards at the CVS pharmacy stores, to turn that into coins for another 10% off basically.

You can purchase through an Android Emulator on the PC. Reddit has a good guide about it here. I’m not sure if you can use the coins in Poland though, you’d have to check if it’s available to you.

There’s only any point doing this if you live in the US I think.
5,000 coins for $41.00 dollars is great
What would the equivalent of that be in the UK(where I live)?
well, $41 IS approximately £28 – souds good!
Except no, buying 5,000 coins from costs £45.00 So that’s £17 more. Completely bonkers and disappointing

TL:DR – Buying Amazon coins using the link on this site is well worth it as it allowed me to save nearly 20% on my purchase of a Hearthstone adventure. Highly recommend it if you are going to purchase anything with real money.

Buying the Amazon coins using the link here worked well without a hitch. Getting the discount from the coins applied to purchasing the Naxx adventure was even better! Nice to have that link shown on this site – thank you again 🙂

One thing to note that might be obvious to others but wasn’t so obvious to a first-time coin buyer like me – after purchasing on the Hearthstone version I got from the Amazon Underground app store, it links back to Amazon to let me use either real money or the Amazon coins for payment. Then it goes back to the Shop in Hearthstone for completing authorization. I didn’t understand that last step since it looks like the payment is done when finished with Amazon – so I didn’t let that authorization complete in Hearthstone before I quickly just got out of the app and went back to my Mac to check the purchase.

You need to wait for the authorization to complete on the Hearthstone (Amazon version) app and then it works for all your devices that use the same bnet account. Duh! But when you have a slow device like my old Nexus 7 I just thought it was lag and exited. Good thing Blizzard keeps track of this and alerts you to go back to the Amazon device and let the purchase complete.

Anyway, thanks for the tip on saving money using the link here to buy Amazon coins for purchases!

Hi, I purchased Amazon coins through the link on this site to support the site. I purchased the new upcoming expansion with it via my Android device that has Amazon’s Hearthstone version installed on it. Since the expansion isn’t coming out until May, I don’t know for sure that the cards will be available when I play Hearthstone on my other devices (like my Mac or iPad).
I could just buy a pack on my Android device, but it was such a hassle to go to the shop on my old Nexus 7 device that I’d rather do it for real – meaning go through the hassle to buy using the Amazon coins ONLY if the packs show up for opening on Hearthstone when I log into my account from my Mac.

Can anyone confirm that the cards bought with Amazon coins are for the account regardless of which Hearthstone you use on which device (non-Amazon)?

    Thanks for any help!

Yes, as long as it’s the same account it should be fine. You should be able to see them under the “Open Packs” tab on any device (do this to verify that they are there). And thank you for purchasing them through the link, I really appreciate it!

        April 1, 2016 at 2:15 pm

@Evident – you’re welcome about the coins! I purchased enough to buy the expansion and anything else I will be buying. Once they run out I’ll use the link again. Your site and your responses are so helpful to a returning player (still a newbie) that I wanted to help out the site in a small way too.

I’m going to fire up the old Nexus 7 now and will try purchasing an Adventure since I just finished the League of Explorers adventure.

        Thanks again!

I did this yesterday… although it was a bit of a hat trick because Hearthstone would not install from the Amazon App store at first on my Note 4… I ultimately had to install it on my work phone (galaxy s4) which is kind of ridiculous… and Amazon tech support wasn’t very helpful… Blizzard tech support was even LESS helpful… in fact I’d say they bordered on sheer negligence regarding their own product.

Anyway I digress, the main reason I am posting here is to let you know that Amazon is no longer offering 10% coins back on purchases $19.99+.

Other than that it’s still a nice savings.

    Let’s make some math.
Here in Brazil, 40 packs costs R$160.
The dollar and real (brazilian coin) have a ration of 1/3.8, so, 1 dollar equals to 3,8 reais.
Therefore, if you, somehow, change the region of your account for USA to Brazil, you will be able to buy 40 packs for only $42,1, saving $47,9 (above 50%).
I don’t know if it’s possible to change region easily, but if I lived in North-America, I’ll definitely try it.

It doesn’t work in Canada, and I’m not aware of a work around. Sorry!

Even if you did, it’s not worth it for us Canadians since you’d have to pay with converted US dollars. Just buying packs through the mobile game charges your account with a 1:1 conversion (so you pay 20 Canadian, instead of 20 US, which saves you about 30%).

Does buying it through the mobile game charge directly to your credit card (in Canadian?) That would be great if that was the case with our current currency situation…. Thanks!

So if I were to go through all of these steps, can I pre-purchase the 50 TGT packs for a discounted price?

Yes, currently you would save $10 because of the 20% off of Amazon Coins. You also receive a percentage of the coins back upon purchase, I believe right now it’s the standard 10%.

Anyway to do this in Australia? It’s $65 for the 50 here, wouldn’t mind getting a discount!

Why this only works in US, UK, or Germany? And isn’t there a workaround for that matter?

The reason why only some codes work on certain parts of the world is because of the different server locations. I assume that battle net credit codes only work in some parts of the world.

I hope I answered your question properly.
