The Puzzle Lab

The Boomsday Project is a scientific endeavor of maddening scope, so Dr. Boom is calling in everyone to help . . . including interns! All the wacky science being done at the Boom Labsβ€”not to mention the blatant disregard for ethics and safetyβ€” has resulted in quite a mess, and someone’s got to clean it up.

In The Boomsday Project’s single-player mode, The Puzzle Lab, players can earn Dr. Boom’s favor by solving over 100 different mind-boggling puzzles. Players will be have to wrestle with a variety of brain-teasers that’ll put their wits to the test, like Lethal puzzles, which challenge them to make a match-winning play with a specific board state, or Survival puzzles, which task them to stay alive against stacked odds with scant tools at their disposal. Bright researchers who survive the gauntlet will earn a one-on-one with Dr. Boom himself, at his personal workshop.

The Puzzle Lab opens on August 21.

Each one of these experiments requires you to complete each puzzle based on the theme of the experiment. Here’s a list and description of the themes:

  • Lethal (Destroy the enemy hero):Β In this experiment, the assistant is tasked with neutralizing the opponent in one turn using the cards at their disposal. We expect this will provide valuable insights into the destructive properties of many of our inventions.
  • Mirror (Create a perfectly mirrored battlefield):Β These tasks challenge the assistant to create a board state where both sides are perfect mirror images of each other: minion positioning, health, attack, etc. This should yield plentiful data on various means of board manipulation.
  • Board Clear (Clear the battlefield of minions):Β Pretty straightforward: clear the board of all minions. Our research suggests that minions play an important role in winning matches, and this set of challenges will help us better understand how to get rid of them.
  • Survival (Survive the enemy Hero Power):Β Finally, the Survival trial requires the test subject to restore their own health in order to survive their opponent’s next onslaught. A recent study has shown that dropping to zero health inversely correlates with winning games, and this experiment will further explore that relationship.

This honestly a horrible set. The mech tribe is incrediblely weak. They gave no support for aggro. Only gave Druid more consistency and otk decks. The meta isn’t going to change In the slightest. I promise you an otk meta will be the blandest meta there ever has been. Just who draws what first :/

Is this a joke? Mechs are crazy! The magnetic mechanic will make it so that druids, and their limited hard removal, will be squashed a lot of the time.

I of all people value a personal opinion, but this is just plain against the facts.

find one above average card mech card and then say that.
there are also maybe 5 playable magnetic cards and all of them arent doing anything to kill druid.
so before saying stuff like that build and a deck and see if its actually true.

war gear, bronze gatekeeper, Glow-tron, skater bot, venomizer, zilliax, and annoy-o-module are all pretty good, and replicating menace and missile launcher aren’t terrible, so only one of the 11 magnetic cards is actually bad, beryllium nullifier. In addition to those the good mechs are eternium rover, coppertail imposter, dyn-o-matic, mechano-egg, mecharoo, upgradeable frame bot, and I myself love all the goblin bomb cards, and that’s not mentioning mech creators like the gigglign inventor.

As for decks, here are three I made
          Mech Warrior – https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/mech-warrior-23/
          Mech Paladin – https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/mech-paladin-21/
          Mech Hunter – https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/ticking-abomination-goblin-boonanza/
and here are some from the community
          Mech Paladin – https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/mech-pal-5/
          Mech Warrior – https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/theorycraft-mechwarrior/

I think mechs look pretty strong

            August 3, 2018 at 2:32 pm

now look again at what u wrote here:
            5 mana 5 5,3 mana 1 5 taunt,1 mana 1 1 rush,5 mana 3 2 divine shield (as buff thats what it is).
are these above average cards in hearthstone? and also notice is cards have very low attack value.
just trying finding that does “fair” things and see where u get-just like elemental shaman and mage.

            and about ur decks:
warrior will lose to druid almost every time(not a good idea) and will beat aggro like rush warrior can and it doesnt work.
but a normal odd build with dr boom and assembly might work(just dont run mechs) because u still beat aggro and got enough armor for maly druid.

paladin is probably the best deck for it but still the deck is worse than murloc paladin or even paladin in power level and fit for what works
in the game(can be good maybe maybe after rotation though when dk are gone and power level is a lot lower).

and for hunter u tried way too much to play this new theme, just play midrange beast hunter for better results as usual for a lot of hunter decks.

Overall I think this expansion is pretty ok that gave us a lot of mechanics and interactions to play around, along with some of the most powerful cards ever printed. I don’t know what the meta will look like yet but I have a feeling it will surprise people. Except for druid. They’re going to be good no matter what.

I give this entire expansion the final rating of

    3.9/5

This is the worst expansion so far. Clearly Blizzard is catering Aggro decks which will lead the game to its death.

    • Meyers, Cory J
      July 31, 2018 at 9:32 am

Aggro will hardly lead the game to it’s death. Aggro is a healthy thing considering how many tools druid and other control decks are getting. I like this expansion a lot. Lots of build around ideas as well as things to slot into existing archetypes

    • c
      July 31, 2018 at 6:48 pm

How is this an aggressive expansion? Honestly this is one of the best, most well thought out expansions in a long time with regards to agro. Most of the aggressive cards in the set do not fit into pre-existing decks and if they do they fit into tier 2 or 3 decks that might become a lot more relevant, while also seriously powering up control and combo decks. Honestly how can you say this is an agro expansion when they have yet to print one good aggressive 1-drop.
So far mage seems to be the class that is receiving the most agro cards, but they lost the most agro options compared to any other class in the rotation.
Hunter is a little early to say but looks like its returning to its more aggressive roots this expansion, which I like, they made control hunter work in the end but now hunter has kind of an identity crisis, and they need to come full circle to cement it as a well rounded class. (also they won’t see play without a good 1-drop)
Shaman legendary minion seems good but its odd cost, probably good in wild but more of a control card in standard.
Paladin, the strongest agro class in the meta, got a tiny bit of support for secret style and thats it.
Warlock legendary spell is also probably pretty strong in agro but it could lead to losing guldan, because you can’t play them in the same turn(without coin), and you have to play what you draw which doesn’t really fit into current zoo because of the number of high cost cards they run.
In neutral there are mechs, but with very few mechs in the game already and notably no 1-drop mechs it doesn’t look op by a long margin, if you play wild then they would probably be a little bit more scary but none of them look close to op.
Nothing in rougue looks like it will fit into any pre existing agro deck.

So its way to early to call this an agro expansion and ill list some control/combo cards to make the point.
      Biology project
      Floop
      Most legendary spells, except warlock
      Hand mage support cards
and a lot of cards that lower mana cost, and cheat out big things.

Aggro, Control and Combo Decks are well balanced I think. But even if aggro would dominate, it would be fantastic, because aggro decks are the best decks. I miss the good old tempo-face-windfury-weapon-shaman

I was wondering, when will the Boomsday Project be released in EU? On August 7th at 0:00 am?

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      July 31, 2018 at 3:15 am

It wasn’t confirmed yet, but definitely not midnight. Normally EU release happened in the night/morning after the NA release – so if the expansion would be released on August 7 in NA, EU release would have happened around 2 – 5 AM on August 8.

That was until The Witchwood, which had more or less simultaneous release around the world. It was available on the release day in the afternoon/evening. So that’s what I would expect this time around too – August 7, probably somewhere between 5 and 8 PM.

I don’t know if it already be said, but the “General Information” section doesn’t mention Omega effect which is an new mechanic.

    • Skidderlord
      July 27, 2018 at 11:51 pm

It could be added to the general info section however it is not a new mechanic. There is no bold text that just says omega in which you have to scroll over the card to read it. They all have battlecrys which is an existing mechanic.

It is clear that after blizzard ressurected shaman into standard ranked ladder (by making 2 damn cards in witchwood nad 1 in kobolds. Just guess those cards) they are going to β€œbring back” warrior in standard ranked ladder by making a direct upgrade to warriors hero power (by making dr.boom). This annoys me, blizzard should try and make classes more powerful without printing OP cards for a class because it can ruin a players experience in hearthstone. Just a bit of my insight

    • C0l0rs
      July 28, 2018 at 4:43 am

In what way is dr. boom “OP”? the heropower is worse than wl heropower and the wl battlecry immideatly affects the board. boom is a huuuuuuuuge tempoloss for a good, unreliant heropower and the rusheffect to your mechs is 1. waaaay to slow vs fast decks and 2. not that great vs controle. I m not saying that it s bad, it is a good card. but OP? in which world is it op? I ve got 1,7k warriorwins on my back, propably 700-1k of them as ctrlwarrior, i love ctrlwarrior, i was hoping that it would become viable on ladder again and not only in tournaments, i doubt that ctrlwarri will be anything above tier 3 deck, it needs way more than this guy to make the archetype viable again. not even talking about midrangewarri no way midrangewarrior of anykind will have a chance in these times of insane powerlvl all over the place.

      • Shitpost
        July 28, 2018 at 4:40 pm

Dude the hero power is a complete upgrade from the warrior hero power. It only costs 7. And the battlecry makes for an immediate action for the mechs making them way better. Its a real good hero card

        • C0l0rs
          July 29, 2018 at 4:15 am

how is “next turn some of your minions have rush” “IMMEDIATE” btw. this card belongs in a ctrldeck (ctrldecks are usually built around spells, not minions and so far there haven’t been good mechs for warrior introduced except for the twodrop but you definitly don t want to play that card post turn 7, making the rushpart basically only relevant for the mechs that you create with your heropower).
tell me what exactly is OP about this card.
it gives alot of value, yes, but rexxar gives more value than this is way more reliant, is cheaper and has a boardclear so you at least have some imapct on the board in the turn you play this card. and rexxar is not even close to the power of malfurion and guldan.

    • Rick
      July 30, 2018 at 5:44 pm

I don’t think Blizzard puts a lot of thought into how any of these new cards will affect the game. I think they just release whatever they come up with and let the chips fall.

      • Simon Degerman
        August 1, 2018 at 3:18 pm

I mean, they have a full playtesting team and nerf cards when a deck gets out of hand

  16. Idunno
    July 27, 2018 at 2:33 am

i think it would be cool if some of the mech classes get an opportunity to get a new hero for example: you refer a friend and get Annoy o tron as hunter hero

  17. Jeff
    July 24, 2018 at 2:02 pm

What the heck is Blizzard thinking lately? How hard is it to create cards that aren’t obviously ridiculous? I love this game but I’m not going to keep buying packs only to be miserable.

Speaking of which, Rin needs to be nerfed in this patch. Azari is the dumbest card ever to see play in this game. I beat a guy earlier with my combo shudderwock shaman and he friended me. Normally I reject such requests, but in this case I accepted. He started screaming at me for playing a “low strategy deck,” even though a LOT can go wrong with combo shaman. The great irony: he was running Rin and trying hard to destroy my deck, which takes absolutely 0 thought. I LOLed at him and he unfriended me.

The nerf to Rin should be that every demon generating the next spell should be a deathrattle so there’s multiple opportunities to silence.

    • xD2728
      July 24, 2018 at 3:42 pm

Lmao… Shudderwock shaman is absolute cancer. I don’t know of anyone who would rather play against shudderwock shaman than rin control lock. Rin is 41 mana, destroy your opponent’s deck. Shudderwock is 9 mana, if your opponent doesn’t concede, waste 20 minutes of their life and win the game next turn. Pls… Why can’t blizzard just nerf shudderwock like they did warsong commander and make it 11 mana or something like that so it’s balanced.

      • Mitch
        July 25, 2018 at 12:54 am

Shudderwock Shaman takes a lot of work. If it was so easy it wouldn’t be a fringe deck. There’s a lot you have to do to make things go right: card management, both Saronites, both Lifedrinkers, Grumble, Hagatha, and then Shudderwock on a fairly clear board with a hand that isn’t too full or else you can’t trigger the repeat combo.

The cancer in this meta is Odd Paladin which takes absolutely 0 thought or skill. Why anyone thinks that deck is fun is beyond me. Every other bozo is running Odd Paladin. It almost makes me want to quit the game since it’s so stupid.

        • Dark
          July 25, 2018 at 1:59 pm

Oh yes, the “the deck I play takes a lot of skill but the deck you play is cancer”. Big Priest, Shudderwock Shaman, Odd Paladin, Kingsbane Rogue, Cubelock, Renolock are all cancer in the mind of who is playing against these decks. Some of them are oppressive more than the other, but every single one of them has match ups that destroys it.

          • Yuri
            July 25, 2018 at 2:48 pm

I’m guessing you are a former Big Priest player who became an Odd Paladin player. Here’s the strategy for those decks: exploit Blizzard’s design stupidity to spam the board and then think you’re a talented player.

Can’t wait for the Odd Paladin nerf. Level Up should be made 7 mana.

          • Raven76
            July 28, 2018 at 6:04 pm

Odd paladin is cancer not because of level up or any card. The real problem is the hero power. it should be “summon a Silver Hand Recruit and give it +1/+1”. That is what will make it much more balanced

        • Joemomma2332
          July 27, 2018 at 11:58 am

LOL. Shudderwock shaman is so brainless. Play grumble, hemet, chain gang, life drinker and your done. It is clear that hearthstone developers tried to pull such an overpowered card out of their ass so that shaman would be revived in ranked (standard)

          • Dark
            July 28, 2018 at 2:58 pm

You are wasting your breath. We have come to a time where Shudderwock players think they are “talented” and everyone else who dares to play anything unless is just exploiting Blizzard’s bad game design.

            July 30, 2018 at 5:30 pm

Why is it “fun” to win a game that doesn’t take any skill?

I used to play an aggro deck. My friends would yell at me saying it was mindless. They were right, and I’ll never play aggro again. Aggro is the worst part of this whole game. Decks that routinely end the game before turn 7 are universally dumb.

I don’t instigate against anybody, except Odd Paladin players, who I now routinely emote. It should be considered shameful to play Odd Paladin.

Shudderwock “strategy”, just play battlecry cards on curve like any other deck. Suddenly draw one card, play it, win after a 15 minute cinematic.

      • Solus
        July 26, 2018 at 11:23 am

“I like to play decks that are hard-countered by another deck, therefor that deck needs to be nerfed so that my deck is the best.” >.> I’ve played Shudderwock, kingsbane, Even Paladin, Big Spell mage, Exodia Mage, Tempo Mage, Control Warlock, Cubelock, Zoolock, Midrange Hunter, Face Hunter, Spell Hunter, Spiteful Druid, Malygos Druid, Taunt Druid, Spiteful Priest, Big Priest, Control Priest, OTK Priest and Inner Fire Priest. That’s combo, control, aggro, midrange and face/burn. Each and every one of those decks require skill and thought if you want to get past rank 10, though some require more than others.

However, when you draw perfectly, with ANY of those decks, NONE of them require much thought, because you drew well. That goes for control, combo, and aggro alike. In most games however, the combo decks required the most thought shudderwock and kingsbane in particular) Because you have so many cards you have to save, and such limited removal options, so many dead cards makes knowing when to use what far more important. Control requires a little less thought since more or less all of your cards do the same thing, but knowing your opponent’s deck allows you to win far more games since you know what to save for later. Aggro and midrange require no thought until rank 10, at which point people know what you’re doing and know how to play around it, and you need to start playing around that or your winrate will drop to around 50/50. Face/Burn decks are the only decks I’ve ever played that actually require no thought, you either draw well and win, or they draw better and they win.

Now can we drop this stupid debate about whether or not Shudderwock/kingsbane/exodia-pally-cube-mage doesn’t take any thought wah-wah. There are no braindead decks, only braindead players and decks that cater to them slightly more than others. If you don’t make meaningful decisions with ANY deck, your winrate will be much worse.

“Just say whatever suits your conclusions at the time” Ahahaha. You’re making it sound as if we are debating politics. Yes, Shudderwock doesn’t take talent, anyone can play it just like many other decks in the game. That doesn’t mean that better players can pilot Shudderwock better than the average player.

That’s weird. This month, rogue is the only class I see where I know before it starts what he’s playing. Rogues ONLY play odd in standard. I’m rank 13. Every other class has at least some variety.

I, for one, agree with Solus. I’m not saying people can’t have their opinion, but we’re all playing the same game. We’ve all seen and possibly played those “cancerous” decks, and unfortunately, unless there is a big change in win percentage among these classes, we can’t do much about it. I’d much rather come onto this site and see people being friendly and trying to see other peoples perspectives on it, and for those who are too proud for that to be willing and open to listen to others who may have to say something. At the end of the day, our opinions will be our opinions; let’s not argue over them, and instead try to come on here and enjoy this ever-expanding and interesting game. I’m sure those who have played for a while would agree that they come back because of how unique the game is to them, and would rather be competitive in a friendly environment, rather than being challenged on every single idea

          July 31, 2018 at 11:20 am

Did read, is not butthurt, and is exactly right. I’m multi-legend but usually only 5- and ALL decks require SOME thought. How many of us have taken the flavor of the month and immediately lost our 1st 5 games? They ALL take some amount of practice and even the easiest ones will only get you to rank 5 without A) playing it perfectly and B) knowing your opponents decks perfectly and C) putting that knowledge together perfectly into creative play-making.

So the way I see it, top decks can make a C player into a B player and a B player into an A. But nothing will turn D’s into A’s… even whining on gaming sights…

The problem with Shudderwoc is not really that it takes or doesn’t take any skill for the pilot. The problem is that whatever you are playing, once you start the match agains Shudder, your plan becomes “kill Thrall asap”.
No trading of cards, no saving resources. There’s barely any opportunity to make smart plays against shudderwoc.
            Just punch the shaman’s face.

That’s very uninteractive. And when your opponent is forced to play brainlessly, then your own challenge is very much capped. That’s why it feels like shudder players are brainless anyway

    • 8BitBrain
      July 25, 2018 at 7:08 pm

You just gave an example, of which there are many instances of where Rin isn’t drawn early enough to summon azari and delete the opponent’s deck. It has to be drawn at least 5 turns before the opponent draws their own deck, and Rin can be polymorphed, silenced, copied, hexed, etc. And you can play around it by applying pressure against it. Also you can win games with no deck, like in the case of shudderwock shaman…

    • NEHIIII
      July 27, 2018 at 6:15 pm

Rin combo requires a lot of turns to get Azari. Of course the pay-off is incredible. Card games reward big for big sacrifice, that’s just the nature.

Do you guys think mechs will be back after this expansion? And if so, which class will be the best for it? It might be to early at the time I’m asking this so the answer may be unclear as of yet, so if you don’t have an answer that’s okay!

Blizzard has stated that Paladin, Hunter and Warrior will be the 3 classes with most Mech support. And yes, I think that Mech decks might be back. It’s hard to say with 100% certainty (we’ve only seen 1/4 of the expansion so far, after all), but the Magnetize mechanic looks quite good.

This expansion looks like it will be real fun (at least in wild where I play), heres hopping I will be able to sell som shit on tradera to buy one of the bundles (Won’t get my studing money until september) xD

Must try a new Mech Mage (With hopfully a quest squeezed in and V-07-TR-0N that can then be activated and magneticly boosted before the enemy even gets a turn, hihi)
    Treant druid, just because
The two other typical druid combo decks with improvments from this expansion.
and most of all the new Mech C’thun deck, it can’t be anything but fun.

    July 20, 2018 at 8:51 am

Once the expansion comes out, meta decks will only have 1-4 of the new expansion cards in them. Also im not too crazy about the magnetic mechanic. if you combine 2 mechs and your opponent SWD it next turn they got a card advantage on you.

    • GameDJJD
      July 24, 2018 at 2:14 am

We will see how much impact this expansion will have. But in average there are only 4-5 cards from every expansion inside a deck (30 cards/deck and 6 expansions + basic cards in Standard).
The main problem I see so far is, that this expansion has no key cards yet. Nothing you can realy build a deck around (Like the Quests, Malygos, Shudderwwock…)
But maybe we will see some later. “Dr. Boom, Mad Genius” and the Mechs are a good start.

If Spider Bomb didn’t have “Magnetic”, would you still play it? I would! Especially in a class that can trigger the death
rattle effect (Play Dead) and get double use. It’s a spell with a body, a great value play!
i’m not so sure I’d even play the Magnetic ability anyway. If you do, you have just 1 minion which 1 resource could eliminate. 2 bodies means 2 resources needed (usually). I may want the death rattle effect but keep my other minion alive. Good card, questionable mechanic.

    • Moltar
      July 17, 2018 at 11:42 am

Volatile Elemental (2 mana, 1/1, deathrattle: deal 3 damage to a random enemy minion) is kinda similar and saw play in constructed, even in non elemental decks.

So I expect this card will see play too.

      • Stonekeep - Site Admin

          July 28, 2018 at 3:17 pm

I remember seeing it as an infrequent anti-aggro tech in Elemental Mage during the early portion of the KFT meta. Beyond that, I’m not sure that it’s seen play in a major competitive deck.

    • Connor Faucher
      July 17, 2018 at 12:44 pm

I think the benefits of the magnetic affect are that you can attach this to a mech already in play so that you can activate the deathrattle that turn if you value trade into another high priority target, therefore getting to clear 2 minions that you might not have been able to otherwise

If they gave away everything for free the game would either have to have a heavy amount of ads on it or it would have to stop it services. It is a business not a charity. It boggles my mind that people can’t think about anything but themselves, open your mind a little.

      • RandyMarsh
        July 14, 2018 at 10:41 am

So that is the alternative, to give everything for free? I didn’t know those where the only two options blizzard can take. I never said to give everything for free that is just what you said. But they should give more things to players than a mere 3 packs. 10 packs of the new expansion would be a great way to go. The fact that you support blizzard on that choice is mind boggling here when it is common knowledge that hearthstone is the only card game that rewards players so little for actually playing. Go buy the bundles and give them money so that you can buy the next one in 4 months and the next one after that. That is the only reason they give so little not because they need the money to support the game.

        • Disqonnect3ed
          July 14, 2018 at 1:33 pm

Oh come on, Valtina has a point, plus don’t forget you also get a free class legendary minion (which in my mind is like an equivalent of 10-12 packs). Also also, there was a supercool event earlier, during which blizzard gave out lots of free gold and dust through better missions. if you had beeen smart, you would have saved up a bunch of resources, and be ready to buy at least 15-20 packs when expansion starts.

          • TurtleX
            July 15, 2018 at 7:19 am

10-12 packs, really? I tend to open 20-30 packs for 1 legendary

          • Artelind
            July 22, 2018 at 5:28 am

Well you’re guaranteed a legendary in the first ten packs, and also when you open 20-30 packs for that one legendary you also get 100-149 other cards.

        • Moltar
          July 14, 2018 at 3:51 pm

According to blizzard, whenever a new set comes out, they allow players to get a total of 10 pack for free, some when you log in, others through some custom quests or single player content (which now is also free).
Also those 10 packs are warranted to net you a legendary (you are warranted to get a legendary in any of the first 10 packs of any set)
In other words, they reward you with free packs and stuff for actually playing the game.

It’s a take it or leave it. If you don’t like it you are free to go play those other more rewarding games.

        • Valtina
          July 17, 2018 at 10:28 am

I am not taking Blizzards side in this, it is merely a logical view of business. You should be happy you get handed anything in the first place, you sound like one of those kids that is asking their parrent for a car in birthday because they friend got one from his parents, when you compare one company with another like that.
I haven’t bought a single pack of cards for money since vanilla and back then it was only 20 packs and i can play the game just fine with the rewards through events like the time walker we just had and now we got a double up yet again.

As i said before it is a business not a charity, the fact that you get anything for free and still whine about it is maddening.

          • Ben Martin
            July 17, 2018 at 9:17 pm

From a business perspective it wld actually be wise for blizzard to give out free packs bc when they don’t it makes ptp players like me more inclined not to play bc it makes them feel like they are being forced to play money. … and although I can be decent at the game wo paying u can never be amazing unless u pay and when blizzard tries to scam u into buying cuz they won’t give u free packs it angers their ptp player base which is illogically business wise not only do to their loss of ptpp’s but to all of the new comers that they could recruit and recommend the game to

          • RandyMarsh
            July 19, 2018 at 3:52 pm

My friend what are you talking about? logical view of business? This is the most unfriendly environment for new player to come into. You say you did not have to buy any packs but you have been playing for years, you have created a collection already. New players have to come into the game and start gathering cards from 3 expansions and the classic set which is probably the most important, and all they get is 3 packs from the latest expansion and a legendary. Maybe a couple of packs from different occasions and then start grinding like crazy just to make one decent deck. In a free to play game. Get your head strait. If that is such a great business plan in your head then yeah dude go ahead support them but do not expect to be the “logical” one here as well. I should be thankful to get anything for free in a free to play game. Get out of here man.

          • Valtina
            July 20, 2018 at 12:58 pm

            RandyMarsh
As i said, your view of this is a free to play game and so it is, but if you are given so much that you can stand on your own without buying anything in the game it wont make sense business wise and it would either have to rely on ads or make the game a purchase to play. Your viewpoint doesn’t make sense for a business, sure they could make it more friendly for new people to join, but that wouldn’t involve giving them a lot free content from the newest content. Then it would be from the vanilla or some earlier sets in the standard format.
It is logical in the sense that is how a business stays afloat, despite it being free to play they still have a lot of expenses on staff and maintenance. As i stated before i do not support blizzard just because i highly disagree with your business sense.
“I should be thankful to get anything for free in a free to play game. Get out of here man.” Yeah you should, the fact you complain about not getting enough is… wauw..

So, if I read that right… you can buy BOTH packages? 50 dollars and 80 dollars… but only once each. Or is it a choice of either one?

So they really figured out how to milk this… make it possible to buy a LOT of cheaper packs in pre-release, but not giving you 80 for 50 dollars (like last release) but the chance for 130 for 130 packs (plus the pointless card back and hero stuff).

Interesting. What a way to milk the early enthusiasm. Smart for them.

yeah , ill take 130 packs 2 golden legendaries and the rets of the stuff for $130 plus im getting 200 free packs from dust. I ll have the entire collection on day one and im done buying anything. That’s 130 bucks for the complete set…less than a buck a card. Save your gold. I hope they continue this. less than 400 a year for every card. divided by 12 thats about 32 bucks a months… about a dollar a day to have every card. thanks blizzard. To the people who cant save or grind gold you pay 2 bucks a day. If you dont want to pay for cards then you have nothing to complain about.

      • RDUNeil
        July 11, 2018 at 6:06 am

Yeah… this is my approach, but then I come from playing Magic for two decades or more, and you had to drop 500 bucks or so on each set (buy a case) just to even remotely get the cards you wanted… then money for drafts, tournaments, etc. Hearthstone is remarkably cheap by comparison. I played the first year I dumped Magic to play HS as a free game, and while it was possible, the minimal investment to have most of the cards you need is worth it if you enjoy the game.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      July 11, 2018 at 2:58 am

It was 70 for $50 last time, not 80 if I remember correctly.

And now they’re giving an extra Golden Legendary. Which is basically a free Legendary of your choice (1.6k Dust) if you don’t care about the shiny cards.

The Witchwood deal was still better, but not by a huge margin much. The difference between let’s say 110 Packs + Golden Legendary and 130 Packs (I’m assuming F2P player will hoard enough gold to get at least 60 packs, I already have enough for 70 for example) is not that big, really. On average, one is worth 2k Dust (100 Dust/pack) and the other is 1.6k Dust. However, the 1.6k Dust is guaranteed, while the 20 packs can be really bad (like imagine you don’t open any Legendaries and only 2-3 bad Epics and a bunch of Commons and Rares you already have).

But yes, the fact that you can buy both is them trying to milk some players. Which I don’t really mind. It’s a better deal than regular packs anyway, so if people want to buy it, why not.

      • laughing

Stone everyone that has access to amazon coins already gets their packs for a dollar or less. I always check coin prices and i buy 10000 for 77-78 bucks when they pop up. My packs are always a dollar or less. Now the 130 packs I just bought i got for even less than a buck and I get two golden legendaries. I have played so long and have every card in the game I’m just in it too deep at this point. This is the only game I play so its not a big deal to me. 50 bucks for 40 packs is nuts, i would never pay that. You have to be smart and take advantage of Amazon. I wouldn’t have the amount of golden cards I have if it were not for the coin deals and coins back options they used to run. at one point I was getting packs for .55 cents. with the preorder and my gold ill have 330 packs on release day give or take a few. That will get me the entire set. Usually I would buy the preorder get around 160 packs from gold and buy another 200 packs of the 40 paack bundles. Blizzard is actually going to get less money out of me this time and I hope they keep doing this. I know people are mad but they have to understand blizzard made this game for one reason….TO MAKE MONEY. selling a toon for 9.99 isn’t the strategy this time around. People who buy cards won’t care one way or another. Blizzard is very smart and they are trying to get those F2P on the fence to throw some money into the pot for some swag. The more people that contribute the better.

I’m using Amazon Coins too! I’m not buying anything other than pre-orders, because I don’t need more packs. With pre-order + packs from gold I usually end up with ~130, which is enough for me – this time I’ll get the 80 packs bundle + over 80 from the gold, so over 160 packs. It won’t give me a full set, but I’ll just craft the useful Epics & Legends. I’m doing this for the last few expansions and I can play every deck I want.

But yes, Amazon Coins are a great deal. If you can get them from 20-25% off, then you’re paying much less for the packs. I wonder why more people aren’t doing it.

And yes, it’s obvious that they made this game to earn money. Every company works like that, they don’t do anything for free. If players are willing to spend money, then it’s a good business. I don’t really mind the prices. I buy one pre-order per expansion and it’s enough for me to play whatever I want. Spending $50 (well, now $80) every 4 months is not a lot for how much I play this game. The only thing I would improve is new players experience. It’s great when you’re already playing the game for long and you can afford anything, but when you just start, you have to grind for months and months to build some meta decks or spend hundreds of dollars at once. Which is a bit steep for someone who just started playing.

Amazon coin seems to be an awesome deal. I’ve used it before on the 10$ bundle (which was like 9:75$) and I would definitely buy more for the larger discounts. The only concern i had was when I bought the coins, it took about a day to pend the transaction. I contacted support asking them why and they said it is to prevent fraud and to make sure that my card had money on it. The customer support told me that it usually takes longer for longer purchases so now I am hesitant because they said that it could take up to 2 weeks to receive my coins. Does anyone else using amazon coin have the same issue or just me?

To add onto that, it’s quite likely that we will see some cards revealed earlier too. In The Witchwood, they have shown some cards in videos about the new mechanics, which were released before the reveal season!
