Missile Launcher Card Review

A really interesting card. The best point of comparison would probably be Dread Infernal. This has a significantly weaker body, but the AoE is repeated. Another point of comparison would be Baron Geddon – while it costs 1 more, it has a much better body and deals 2 AoE instead of one. And, to be honest, it kind of pales in comparison with both of those. It has Magnetic, so it can also be used as a buff, which is always a nice thing. The craziest combo would obviously be this card + Toxic Arrow. Giving it Poisonous means that it’s a full board clear every single turn. However, keep the word “full” in mind – it would also clear all the minions YOU have, so the only way to get more stats on the board would be buffing this guy. It’s of course great, but it’s still an 8 mana, 2 cards combo in Hunter, a class that isn’t necessarily known for great cycling capabilities. If it was meant to be great, players would at least experiment with the same combo on Geddon, but it never really was a thing. Another cute combo is Snowchugger in Wild. Since you damage everything, you freeze everything each turn, which can potentially win a game if your opponent has no Silence/direct removal.

It’s a cool card, but it’s usability is mostly tied to the how the meta looks like. 6 mana for a 4/4 body is terrible, so the effect simply needs to be great in order to compensate for that. If board flood decks such as Odd Paladin or Zoo Warlock are all over the ladder, then this card might make sense in Mech decks. If not, it’s probably too week. So I’d say that it’s an okay tech card, but nothing more than that.

Card rating: 3/10

    Stats: 3.5 mana
    Effect: 1 mana
    Magnetize: .5 mana
Here’s hoping the cosmetic effect is worth the last mana. If it shoots a dozens of rockets at everything it might be worth it.
Btw: there is a 2 mana 2/2 magnetic poisonous in hunter.

You get the feeling that with this and Shooting Star, Blizzard are trying to rein in Odd Paladin?

On its own 2/5, as a buff, well then….it’s pretty decent. Solid 3/5 overall

If you think this is any good, just take a look at Geddon.

I think they are just trying to be careful not to make anything they need to nerf, all the legends have been very underwhelming, and with a new mechanic they are nervous i think.

Just wait until Blizzard releases a mech with poisonous.

How often do you encounter plague scientist geddon rogues?

Making it 5 mana would have been broken (neutral Despicable Dreadlord), but at 6 mana it’s not good enough. It’s a nice tech vs Odd Paladin, though. So 2/5 stars.

Hilarious how over-used the terms “broken” and “op” are.

1 mana is enough to make a card go from playable to unplayable, or above average to great, but not from “broken” to 2/5, so something is off with your rating.

Also, something else of note, despicable dreadlord isn’t a great direct comparison, so it deals 1 damage only to opponents minions. This is *all* other *characters.* Not a huge difference at all times, but definitely matters.

Well yeah, at 5 mana this would have been a 4.5/5 stars, especially with Magnetic. One mana DOES make a huge difference in most of the cards. There’s a few where it’s not the case (Spreading Plague) and most where it indeed is (Fiery War Axe). Some cards should cost X.5 mana for them to be balanced, but since that’s impossible, they’re too good at X mana and not playable at X + 1 mana. I think this would hit the sweet spot at 5.5 mana. And of course, Warrior could benefit from this card’s self-inflicting damage, but this looks like an Odd Paladin sort of tech.

even at 5mana it would be bad (outside of poisonous shenanigans)

It would be a very powerful Magnetic buff at 5 mana.

A minion buff that’s like BoK, except you pay 1 more in order to repetitively kill your own board

Or, you know, utterly destroy Odd Paladin’s hopes. Or get a ton of value in the Control Mech Warrior deck that we’re expecting to see this expansion, with things like Acolyte of Pain, Cornered Sentry, the 1/3 that gives you 2 armor when hurt, etc.

Remember Despicable Dreadlord? It’s a pretty good card against aggro. Altough this costs 1 more and has 1 hp less, the magnetic effect could balance that out.
Missile Launcher seems very good to me against an aggro-meta.

Imagine if they make a poisonus mech.
Magnetize this with that for full board clear.

Another piece for the tier 1 Rotface deck…

As with most whirlwind effects, this will most likely fit warrior best. The effect is at the end of the turn, though, and it is quite expensive. You will need this to go off multiple times for it to be worth it. That is not nearly as controlled as something like Blood Razor, and it could backfire. You do as mentioned also only get this at the end of the turn, which means you often can’t take advantage of its effect before your opponent has a chance to answer. In some cases it becomes a must-kill for your opponent, and that is always nice.
There is also some potential for popping Voodoo doll and similar things. Maybe the goblin bombs?

If you take the magnetize into effect, it does of course look more useful. +4/+4 is pretty decent to give a minion, although it is not much for 6 mana.
I guess it has some potential against aggro decks, but I doubt it is better than many other options.

It’s kinda cool to see a neutral version of Despicable Dreadlord. I understand that this one is worse in all aspects, but there are classes that this would be perfectly acceptable in since they might not be able to deal with wide boards very effectively. Plus, as long as token decks remain popular in Standard and since this can be stuck onto a minion, Mech decks will at least consider playing this.
