Coppertail Imposter Card Review

Cool concept. 4 mana 4/4 with Stealth, but Stealth disappears after a turn. I guess that they didn’t want to have a Mech with perma-stealth because you could just stack and stack Magnetic buffs to it and then throw one huge hit in. Might not be the best strategy, but they want to make it more interactive. For all of the normal uses, one turn of Stealth on this guy is pretty much as good as perma-stealth, as you will want to attack right away anyway.

The idea behind it is to have a Mech that sticks onto Turn 5, so then you can buff it with e.g. Wargear (9/9) or Zilliax (7/5 with Taunt and Divine Shield). But besides the fact that it will stick, it’s still a 4 mana 4/4 minion with no other effect, making it… good, but not amazing. However, if you play a bunch of Magnetize cards, it might still make a cut just for the fact that it will make Magnetize mechanic more consistent. Stealth is also good, because even if you don’t Magnetize onto it, you can dictate where the trade goes most of the time.

It’s a bit like Stranglethorn Tiger, but for Mech decks. Might see some play.

I believe this card has a secret interaction that everyone is missing right now: Shudderwock. You can make a value oriented Shudderwock with Twilight Drakes and stuff, and then give it Stealth so that it’s very difficult to remove on the opponent’s turn (Would need Twisting Nether, SR Anduin, etc). Right now the Grumble approach is the better Shudderwock combo, but once it rotates, I see this as an essential battlecry for Shudderwock to be your win condition in Standard.

this can be (likely isn’t but just saying) better than the shudderwock combo cause it can’t fail on zola or bouncing combos

Could be useful for shudderwock maybe. Gaining a full board of 6-6s with stealth could be amazing. Maybe even buff them.

I know what I’m doing with this in Priest:

Turn 6: Drop this 4/4 Stealth Mech which will probably survive.

Turn 7: Magnetise Bronze Gatekeeper on it to give it +5 health (and Taunt but that’s irrelevant because…) drop Radiant Elemental, Divine Spirit, Divine Spirit, Inner Fire, 36/36 Mech that can attack.

Guess I’m gonna try Mech Priest now

divine spirit inner fire has been done again and again since this game started. boring

The problem here might be that the stealth is just for one round and a taunt might ruin your day.

I love Inner Fire, Divine Spirit decks so not boring for me 🙂

Priest has plenty of silence for Taunts, could even wait till turn 10 as Mass Dispel will fit in as 3 mana along with the rest of the combo and prevent any Taunts protecting your opponent.

And 1 turn of Stealth isn’t a problem if you win the next turn. Means only board clears or random target removal will work, and few people would use a board clear on just a 4/4 with no effect except stealth, and random target removal isn’t used that often.

Sounds like you missed the boat with the best Mech Inner Fire / Divine Spirit deck from GvG days… it involved Flying Machine.

Almost guaranteeing your four drop to survive is a powerful effect in a buff centric tribe like Mechs. Even with that, I’m unsure if Coppertail Imposter will see play unless it turns out there are not any other decent four drop mechs.

Could be a good magnetize target, but more than likely just has too poor of stats

    2/5

How the fuck does this have poor stats? 4 mana 4/4 stealth with a tribe is good

Yeah I agree looking further at this card it probably deserves a 4/5
