Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Murder at Castle Nathria Week 2 – August 2022

Murder at Castle Nathria expansion was released almost 2 weeks ago. We’re in the middle (or rather by the end at the time I’ll post this) of the first Masters Tour of the set, and… to be honest, it’s quite boring. This meta was “solved” incredibly quickly. Usually the new decks are still getting discovered a week or two into the set, but this time basically everything is the same as it was after 4-5 days. Habugabu has shaken things up a bit with his Shaman, which suddenly became the most popular deck on the ladder (Imp Warlock has retaken that spot outside of Legend, but it’s still a close second), but that’s about it.

Luckily, things are going to change soon – either on Tuesday or Thursday if we take the usual patch dates. We’re getting a big balance update – we’ve already learned about some of the nerfs and buffs, but not all of them – I think that Blizzard will go hard on the buffs this time, because the imbalance between top and bottom classes is staggering. Even if we nerf ALL of the Tier 1-2 decks, Warrior and Demon Hunter would still probably be bad. Yes, it’s that horrible – those two classes have sub-40% win rate in Standard, and that’s quite rare. Paladin and Rogue is also struggling a bit, but not to the same extent (~43% WR, which, don’t get me wrong, is still horrible, but not as horrible as let’s say 37%). On the other side of the spectrum, Warlock, Shaman and Hunter all sit above 53%, which is also quite rare if we look at the stats of entire class (remember that some people run bad decks, so the real win rate of top builds from those are closer to 55%).

While I love the expansion’s theme and many of the new cards, Castle Nathria has been one of the most imbalanced expansions in recent history – let’s hope that the balance update will fix at least some of those issues.
