Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Murder at Castle Nathria (+Maw and Disorder) Week 11 – October 2022

I usually skip those posts right after a balance update or a release, because the meta changes make the older decks no longer relevant. I thought a bit about doing the same thing now but decided against it – even though the patch was released a few days ago, it honestly didn’t affect the meta. The only decks that are no longer playable (literally) are Wild Even decks that used the card before (but Odd decks can run him now, maybe that will be useful in Odd Warrior, not like the deck is particularly good anyway). While losing Theotar might have hurt Even builds a bit, it’s ultimately not the end of the world.

Hunter is… still good. It’s no longer the #1 deck in the meta – that’s probably Imp Warlock (and even more so the Curse variant), but Rexxar remains in low Tier 1 or maybe high Tier 2. Wildseeds are still good enough to see play, so deck lists pretty much remain the same. You can play all of the pre-patch ones and you should still do fine.

Theotar, the Mad Duke seems to have suffered even less than Hunter. It was the fourth most popular card in the game before nerfs, and it’s exactly in the same spot after. It dropped a few % of play rate (from ~48% the last time I checked before patch to ~44% now) and that’s it. It wasn’t a card that you play for its stats anyway, and you often didn’t play him until late game, so 1 mana difference isn’t that big of a deal. Yes, it’s slightly worse now – but definitely not what those who dislike it wanted (on the other hand, disruption fans can rejoice).

So that’s basically the meta we’re stuck with for the next ~2 weeks or so. That’s when Patch 24.6 is going to drop (either late October or early November) and, according to Blizzard, it’s going to come with a surprise. From the sounds of it, that surprise might shift the meta. We don’t know what it is yet (it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if we did), but I suspect that it’s a Hallow’s End event akin to “Doom in the Tomb”. Maybe some cards will temporarily come back to Standard, probably alongside a massive meta shift. I hope that we’ll hear about it more soon.
