Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – March of the Lich King Week 5 – January 2023

I hope you like the current meta because it looks like it’s here to stay for some time. I thought that we were going to see Patch 25.2 and possibly some balance changes alongside it very soon – but it looks like there will be no nerfs or buffs until “later this month”. Of course, the dev’s comment wasn’t very precise, but it sounded like they’re talking about the second half of the month. The good news is that the patch is supposed to slow down the meta and contain some more spicy changes – can’t wait to see them.

On the topic of current meta, it hasn’t really changed that much, but there were some small shifts. I have to say that if we just look at the stats, the game’s meta is actually quite balanced. No single deck completely dominated in terms of win rate or popularity – throughout most of the ladder you have tons of viable options. The situation only changes in high Legend, where Rogue (Miracle/Thief) and Demon Hunter (Questline) completely dominate, making up for well over 40% of the meta. Of course, most of players aren’t in high Legend, but it doesn’t change the fact that high Legend meta might sometimes trickle down to lower ranks after a while, and trust me – you wouldn’t like to see that all over the ladder.

The biggest “surprise” of this week has been Control Warrior. The stats for the deck are quite horrible, it’s one of the WORST decks in the meta, and yet some high Legend players actually have success with it + it’s getting way more popular than it should. I feel like it’s because people really want to play some old-school Control, which is difficult in the current crazy, burn-oriented meta and with 5 health less because of the Prince Renathal nerf. If you want to play a similar deck style, Blood Death Knight is still probably the best option, but even that deck is sub-50% WR (but still much better than Warrior).

And that’s the sad reality of the current meta. You’re forced to play faster decks. Aggro, Tempo, Burn, even faster Midrange – those are the decks that perform quite nicely. But once you get into slower Midrange, Control or even classic Combo (so mostly Control with a combo win con)… they aren’t so hot right now. Let’s hope that the recently teased balance update changes that.

Below, you will find a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.

What is striking is how few neutral cards the top decks contain.
Astalor Bloodsworn is the best neutral card.

It definitely is. Astalor has 70%+ play rate in Diamond-Legend. The card almost certainly is on the chopping block.
