Top Standard, Wild & Twist Legend Decks – Showdown in the Badlands (Week 4) – December 2023

First, I want to note that we just had a balance update on Friday. Since there aren’t enough post-patch decks to make this compilation, I’ve decided to just use decks from the entire week, including those before the patch. However, patch was pretty minor, it mostly buffed a bunch of cards that didn’t see play (most of them still don’t see play) and nerfed Enrage Warrior & Rainbow Mage. The second part is more important – Enrage Warrior & Rainbow Mage lists below were played before the patch and are now weaker. That said, both of those archetypes are still playable, so it’s not really a big deal. Still wanted to warn you.

I kind of feel like the patch pushes us back to the previous meta from before the earlier balance changes. Nerf to Order in the Court kind of moved Paladin from the top of Tier 1 to low Tier 1-high Tier 2. It was still great, but no longer the best deck in the game. But as it so happens, both Enrage Warrior and Rainbow Mage (nerfed in this patch) had a solid matchup vs Paladin. So nerfing those decks means that Paladin is once again the unquestionable #1 class in the game. Yay. Most of the other popular meta decks (Dragon Druid, Reno decks, Plague DK) just kind of want to dodge Paladins. Reno decks additionally want to dodge Plague DK. So long story short, Paladin is kind of Tier 0 right now, so you either play them or accept a slightly lower win rate.

Other than that, there’s not much to talk about. Blizzard was mostly trying to keep it safe before Hearthstone World Championship 2023 next weekend. Apparently, there’s another patch window lined up after the championship (shortly before Christmas) and that’s when they plan to take bigger risks to shuffle the meta a bit. After that, there’s a mini-set coming early in January. We don’t have the exact date yet, but given that Heroic Brawl drops on January 3, it should be shortly after that (January 9 or 11 perhaps?).

Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
