Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – March of the Lich King (+Return to Naxxramas) Week 15 – March 2023

A new expansion was just announced – Festival of Legends. While we don’t have an official release date yet (just “April 2023”), it’s quite likely that it will drop on April 11. A reveal season has just started, so far we’ve seen all of the Neutral cards and a few class ones.

Of course, a new expansion’s announcement usually has no impact on the current meta. But it just so happens that Patch 25.6 also gives us the free set Legendary. This time it’s E.T.C., Band Manager, and it’s a pretty good one. It sees a decent amount of play in both formats. However, unlike something like Prince Renathal, it doesn’t change the way the game is played that much. It’s mostly a flexible way to add tech cards to your deck, it doesn’t change the basic way the decks are built or played for the most part. That’s why, despite being played in around 25% of the decks in Standard and almost 30% in the Wild, I wouldn’t exactly say that it impacted the meta a lot. And it actually made a bigger difference in Wild than Standard, which is rare for a single card release. It’s more interesting in Wild, because it lets players bypass some of the deck building restrictions. For example, you can play E.T.C. in an even deck, but add odd-cost cards to it. Similarly, you can play a Reno (singleton) deck, but add a few strong duplicates to E.T.C.’s band. Those didn’t exactly turn the meta upside down, but it’s still a strong effect.

Because of that, the meta is mostly the same as it was a week ago. And since it’s actually quite healthy and has no real standout decks that are completely overpowered, I think that’s the meta we’ll be in until the next expansion. Or maybe until the next rotation – remember that Festival of Legends comes with Standard rotation, including changes to the Core Set. There’s a chance that those Core Set changes will drop a week or so before actual expansion, alongside Patch 26.0. If that is the case, we’ll have this extra, short meta with the new Core Set but old expansions. That would be interesting and I hope it happens again. Even if not, the expansion should provide a massive meta shake-up, something I think most of us need since this expansion had some long periods of really unfun gameplay patterns and class dominating (first Rogue and then Death Knight).

    Hey there!

As I see it E.T.C.s band isn’t included in the deck code!? Which makes it pretty difficult to use a posted deck.

And pleeease, remove the link to the Wild Tier List. It’s superoutdated and absolutely useless.

Sadly our website still doesn’t support ETC bands/codes. We tried to make it work, but it’s more difficult than we thought because it completely changes the deck code logic. I don’t think any website has implemented it yet because of that.

However, if you click on the deck’s name and go to its page, I post ETC’s band (sideboard) in the description. That’s the workaround for now.

I really plan to get around to updating Wild Tier List, but you’re right, I think it will be better to just remove it until that happens.
