Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Fractured in Alterac Valley Week 11 – February 2022

Onyxia’s Lair mini-set has released earlier this week and it has made quite a substantial impact on the meta. The card that most (including me) have predicted to be more on a meme side turned out to be the most impactful card of the set. I’m, of course, talking about Kazakusan, which is mostly played in Druid, but also Warrior and Priest. Getting it out quickly can lead to a swift win, because the average power of treasures you get from it is much, much higher than something a regular deck can deal with. Faster decks have to rush them and slower decks need to run a Kazakusan of their own or have some other guaranteed win condition (like some sort of combo). Of course, the rise of Kazakusan has also lead to a lot of Aggro decks in the meta to punish them, especially the early, unoptimized builds. New ones got more defensive and better at dealing with Aggro, but it’s hard to say how everything will progress from now.

While Kazakusan is not exactly balanced (if you get the right treasures, you basically won the game), it looks like players mostly have fun playing it – at least for now. But I could see how the card can get tiring after a while.

Other than that, we didn’t really get any “new” decks. Some of them shifted in terms of power, others got some minor improvements, but that’s about it. I don’t really expect any balance changes for now, though. We might get SOME in 22.6, but I think that the next big meta change will come with the next expansion.

Below, you will find a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.

Kazakusan could be an OK card if worked as a late game value in a Control shell but Druid can ABUSE of it and play as early as turn 5/6 and at that stage is GG. A nerf to 10-mana closes the door to other clases like Priest/Warrior to test the card while Druid could still use util rotation (hope no more RAMP next year!!)

      Because of Lightning Bloom.
Same in Shaman Lightning Bloom plus coin enables Wildpaw Cavern on turn 1. Hard to deal with.

High potential for nerf. Either raising Kazakusan cost to 10 mana, or give a harder restriction such as, “If you played 2 dragons this game, discover treasures”, or removing some troublesome/easy win treasure from the pool.

For now, I’m guessing the most troublesome treasure is Locust. Removing it from treasure might prove useful. Dealing 14*4 times to face is too much, while also giving board threat.

The 2nd was probably Quel’delar. But the low chance of getting both part of weapon, and reducing total of treasure to 8 is already too high cost. Maybe just tick the weapon to 3/3 and deal 3, instead of 4/4 and deal 4. Honestly, I’m also getting tired of seeing Kazakusan in every match.

I already hate Kazakusan. 3 reasons. 1. waiting for your opponent to choose cards. 2. knowing it’s game over you still don’t concede immediately hoping he got unlucky with the offered cards. 3. here we go again another Kazakusan please no more stop this madness.
