A lot of bad options to choose from, but the card can still see play as a spellburst activator.

So they advertised it like Studies was gonna be one of the expansion-defining mechanics of Scholomance, and then only print…2 that are class specific?

    Am I missing something?

This is a mixbag between using a Discover Card and I Know A Guy. Mage is a bit more Reasonable becuase Fast Mages can use Primordial Studies.

On the other Hand, COsting 1 less is good, and there are 14 SpellDamage Cards out there, and 7 of them are Solid. So you literally have a 50% chance to getting a good Spell Damage Minion.

Yeah, this is good. The Fact that this Calculation is this good, makes it promising enough that Primoridial isn’t a Trash or Filler Card. For one, these kinds of Discover a Minion Spells are good.

Because of the Calculation where it’s 50%, I have to give it 5 star. Becuase even if you see 2 Bad Spell Damage Cards, you can probably just use the other Spell Damage Minion that’s good.

In any normal deck, you will just run a good spell damage minion instead of this. And why even run a spell damage minion when all-non-primes are pretty terrible? Sure, this can highroll to get you a copy of your Prime (More Solarians are ALWAYS good!) but anything else is bad. There are tons of terrible spell damage minions. Minions you would never want to use in your deck.

What goes for this card? It’s a cheap spell for mage and mages love this. But once again, every other 1 Mana Spell is better for decks that play around Mana Cyclone and Chenvaala: This or Arcane Missiles? Arcane Missiles.

And now, the one and only niche for this awful card could be Pure Spell Mage. There, you have enough spells to make Spell Damage strong and you can risk ending up with an Archmage or Dalaran Mage. Although I doubt this deck can happen, it is strong there and therefor gets 2 stars.

Arcane missiles? More like Devolving Missiles.

Hm. I suppose you have a good analysis of this. However, it also largely depends of the pool of Spell Damage minions that we will have in the next expansions. If devs continue to give support to the Spell Damage mechanic, this could be a nice inclusion. Also, let us not forget that Discover options are LARGELY oriented towards that of your class, and Mage just got an excellent one (Lab Partner). If the pool of Spell Damage minions gets better over time, I could see this being decent. At least playable in my opinion. I would say it has the potential of becoming a 3 stars.

I wish it could discover the Rune Dagger from Shaman! Then, it would be insanely strong!
Unfortunatly, it cannott do this, so it stays at 2 Stars for now. But as soon as the overall pool of Spell Damage gets stronger and to a point where you are likely to get a decent card, this should be 3 Stars.

There’s a lot of garbage you can get from this. Best case is you snag Bloodmage Thalnos, Azure Explorer, Lab Partner, Malygos(?) or a Prime. It’s a 1-mana “hope you highroll and draft those minions”.

Worth tinkering with for Spell Mage. Can’t see Shaman using it, except it’s a GREAT pull from Instructor Fireheart, and maaaaybe you use it with Diligent Notetaker to fish for a prime?

Spell damage is a boring mechanic.. But this is a very nice addition to the All spell mage which is currently my favourite deck. Still don’t think the mage legendaries will work well enough but the spell reduction is nice. 4/5.

The fact that this can tag a prime gives it some real value it also supports the general idea of making spell dmg more valuable and gives more reason to try out the shared legendary.

I dont understand why they decided that spell damage is the common thing between shaman and mage, mage doesn’t really care about spell damage, it’s always just a plus on the side for their cards but shaman doesn’t even benefit from spell damage. This shaman-mage cards are just mage cards tbh, with the exception of the devolving one.

Your kinda ignoring the fact shaman has 1/4 chance of summoning a spell dmg totem. And to be fair I’ve had several games where I was hoping to summon it but didn’t where I was just short of winning or killing off a threat.

I think they are pushing a spell shaman archetype that’s why

Kinda disappointed wanted mage’s studies to discover a spell but the card is still pretty good. Suddenly the trash legendaries for mage this xpac seems a bit more playable. This card is 4 stars.

Really good for a damage spell archetype.
