Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Sunken City (+Throne of Tides) Week 9 – June 2022

Throne of Tides mini-set has been out for 1.5 weeks now and the clear winners have already surfaced.

Control Warrior is one of the strongest decks in the meta, and even THE strongest one at certain ranks (like high Legend). It doesn’t matter whether you go for an “old-school” Kazakusan build, more recent so-called Elemental build, a mix of both, or even a Charge variant – you should do well with it on the ladder. Mini-set has also brought back Aggro Demon Hunter – a deck that dropped to Tier 3 after the nerfs is back in Tier 1 after the addition of Fossil Fanatic (+sometimes Herald of Chaos) and mixing the Aggro and Fel builds together. Paladin (Mech and Holy), Rogue (different variants of Thief build) and decks like Big Beast Hunter & Naga Priest are also all working very well, however they lag behind the Warrior and Demon Hunter by a couple of win % points.

The next big meta shift we can wait for is… next expansion, in ~2 months. With the mini-set releasing ahead of the regular schedule, maybe the expansion will also drop earlier (like late July), but we’ll have to see. Either way, it’s a lot of time and I expect Team 5 to push some balance updates in the meantime. I have two guesses – one is that they do it quickly and release (or at least announce) something next week, based on the data from two first weeks of mini-set or… they wait until a bigger patch – 24.6 – and then push some balance changes alongside next expansion’s announcement. But there’s still likely 3-4 weeks until 22.6, so I’m not sure if that’s the best course of action.

Below, you will find a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.

neptulon’s actually breaking wild somehow, most powerful minion they ever printed, and deals 24 face damage uncontested

also coilfang constrictor is only good in wild weirdly, looking at evenlock, I would’ve never guessed 2 copies run over the only 1 copy of dark alley pact

probably cause the games are faster, boards are bigger over there, so you’re more scared of getting cleared

also love to see warlocks in standard running a dreaded mount to help against divine shield paladin, I only discovered its use by first discovering it off nagaling, then actually crafted it for my deck

its basically a 1/1 charge every turn, cause its awake summoning at the end of opponent’s turn not start of yours, perfect for popping the annoytron swarms of mech decks

    Hello, guys!

I would like to ask for some help from those who know the meta much better than me. Is the a deck called Mech Priest? Because one of them just cut my throst around turn 6 😀

In Standard or Wild? I guess that you could technically build a Mech Priest build in Wild, but it would be really difficult in Standard. The class has no Mech synergies so it would have to rely on Neutrals only. Maybe they just got lucky and drew perfectly :p

        Oh, definitely standard 😉

I don’t think it was just luck, they only played mechs and used the synergies between them deliberately.
However, there are a few circumstances making the situation much less unlikely: it happened in Bronze 2 rank, and I tried to farm achievements instead of actually win the game 😛
I think it was some kind of ultra-budget deck os a casual player you can build even with a few free packs and cards along the rewards track.
What made it really funny: seeing – and losing to – a deck, which is clearly a synergistic, thematic deck in the eyes of its owner, but never ever mentioned in any meta analysis 😀 (And I also rolled back a few years to the past in the sites database.)

Haha, oh yeah, you can meet all kinds of interesting decks in low ranks. I think that a Mech Priest could actually work in Bronze – while the class has no Mech synergies, there are enough good Neutral Mechs to kind of make it work. It’s definitely not a deck that would be viable in higher ranks, but “down there” anything goes.
