Top Standard, Wild & Twist Legend Decks – TITANS + Fall of Ulduar (Week 11) – October 2023

Last week has been… quite uneventful, to be honest. It’s been nearly two weeks since The Jailer got banned as a counter-measure to the rising Druid’s popularity and power. But as it turns out, it didn’t help much. It took players like a day or two to adjust to new builds, and – as it turns out – Yogg Druid is #1 deck in the game right now ASSUMING you know how to play it well. Piloting it without an obvious win con like Tony + Jailer got a bit more tricky. I’m not saying it’s the most difficult deck ever, but there’s a good reason why nearly all top Legend players play Druid while the deck has a relatively small presence in low ranks.

Other than Druid, the meta is more or less similar. Other popular decks include Arcane and Secret Hunter, Rainbow Mage, Control Warrior, Pure Paladin, and… Plague Death Knight. The last one is one of the most common decks on the ladder, which I find quite curious. A lot of people see it as a Druid counter. But it really isn’t. If Druid knows how to play, it’s pretty much a 50/50. Not bad, but at the same time, Plague DK struggles against high board tempo decks like Undead Priest, Enrage Warrior or Mech Rogue. It’s not great at clearing the board, and its early game plays are pretty low tempo (unless you get lucky and your opponent draws a few Plagues quickly). It’s a Tier 3 deck with a Tier 1 deck popularity for some reason. Maybe people just like to play it, I don’t know.

Two decks that have been popping up more recently are a version of Secret Rogue with Yogg and buff-focused Pure Paladin. Both of those actually look quite promising. Also, one deck is criminally underplayed. Enrage Warrior is one of the strongest decks in the meta, yet its play rate is only around 2%. Maybe that’s because it’s been almost the same deck for a long time now – sure, it got some new tools every now and then (the latest being an incredible Battleworn Faceless), but the underlying gameplay is almost the same as it was a year ago.

Still, we clearly need a balance update. Last week I was talking about the popularity of Yogg-Saron, Unleashed. I predicted that it will only grow, and I was right. When I checked it 7 days ago, it was at 41% play rate in Diamond-Legend and at 54% in Legend. Right now the numbers are 51% and 59% respectively. I don’t have stats for top Legend in particular, but I would honestly guess that it’s closer to 70% there. The card clearly needs a nerf, making it less powerful will solve many problems.

I would expect a balance patch soon, maybe next week. 27.4.2 (the last update) dropped on September 28. That’s a while ago now. Sure, we did have an emergency Jailer ban a few days later, but that clearly didn’t help. And Blizzard promised to unban him with the next patch. Let’s just hope that it drops sooner rather than later. There’s also a question of the next expansion’s announcement, which should probably happen soon (I’ve been predicting an early expansion release for a while now, and right now clues point toward November 14 launch date). Maybe those two will actually be one – we’ll get an expansion announcement with a balance update in Patch 27.6. We’ll see.

Question – will HST ever post Sideboard lists along with ETC? I know that probably requires some coding but I’d love to see it with some of these decklists. Might be good to put in the individual deck guides? (I know those aren’t updated anymore, might be an easy solution if you get around to it).

My two cents. Keep the good work.

Sideboard lists are always posted in the deck’s description. You need to go to the individual deck’s page (click on the deck’s name) and scroll down a bit.

For example, if you want to see sideboard for the top Druid deck, you go to this page and scroll down a bit: https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/decks/yogg-druid-1-legend-otgchu-fall-of-ulduar-titans/

I would love to post E.T.C.’s sideboard together with the deck list itself, but it apparently required a lot of dev work and sadly I didn’t get any resources to do it and my own coding skills are very basic 🙁
