Last week I said that we should probably expect another balance patch soon, and I was sort of right. While I predicted that it will drop with 20.2 (we now know that it’s coming on May 4), it’s not exactly true – devs will think about changes in the coming week, but implement them the week after (no exact dates yet). Hopefully, we’ll learn more about it soon.
The meta is still mostly dominated by Paladin, so everything revolves around it. Some counters are slowly popping up. Secret Rogue, for example, is already getting quite popular at higher Legend because of its solid Paladin matchup. Priest is also performing quite well against the class, but its held back heavily by its horrible, horrible Control Warlock matchup… which is very popular for some reason despite not really countering anything other than Priest. Other than those, Rush Warrior, Spell Mage and Face Hunter are also all performing very nicely (at least in higher Legend). We’re still notably missing Shaman from the meta nearly entirely – even its most popular Aggro Shaman archetype has less than 1% play rate (and abysmal win rate). DH and Druid also aren’t very popular, but Druid at least has a well-performing deck – Token Druid. It has only around 3% play rate, but it’s actually a pretty solid one. Maybe people are already bored of it after seeing a very similar archetype for a long time now. DH is… not so good, but still in better shape than Shaman.
Overall, we need to wait for another balance update before we can tell more about the meta. Paladin will definitely be targeted, but other than that, it’s anyone’s guess.
