Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – The Lost City of Un’Goro (Week 4) – August 2025

Turns out we ARE getting some (more specifically four) balance changes in the upcoming Battlegrounds update (33.2). Those patches historically rarely have any Standard changes, but devs (rightfully so) thought that we need something after all.

The nerfs are actually quite big, especially if you’re a high ranked player – they target Dorian/Agamaggan Warlock and Cycle Rogue. Those decks aren’t very common at low ranks, but they make up for about 20% of the meta in Diamond-Legend, even more in high Legend. Given their play rate, nerfing them should have an impact on the rest of the meta, although what what impact is going to be is hard to tell at this point.

The buffs are… well, I don’t think they will be as impactful as the nerfs. Quest Mage now requires one Discover fewer to complete the Quest, which might, but I don’t feel like that was the limiting factor for the deck. And Quest Demon Hunter’s buff is even less impactful – after you play the reward, the effect will work on your opponent’s turn too (it will make trading into your 2 Attack minions more deadly). It’s a nice QoL thing, but again, that wasn’t the issue with the deck in the first place.

Oh, and one more thing. Death Knight is getting a new Legendary card in the upcoming event – Staff of the Endbringer. Overall it’s a pretty solid card – you can equip it, replace it with another weapon, and have essentially a 3 mana board clear. Except… Death Knight is probably the last class that needs it. Between Wild Pyromancer + Poison Breath and Corpse Explosion, the class has more than enough board wipes (not to mention that The Ceaseless Expanse is also great in DK). Maybe it will see some play, I’m not sure, but it’s definitely not going to have as big of an impact as it would in many other classes.

Overall the meta hasn’t really chaged much since last week, so let’s hope that the patch makes a difference. But sadly I think that we’ll have to wait until the mini-set (so a few more weeks) to see some bigger shifts.
