Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Into the Emerald Dream (Week 4) – April 2025

Post-patch Emerald Dream has really been one of the most dynamic metas I remember. While the changes are no longer as fast as they were shortly after the patch, we’re actually still seeing some shifts.

A week ago, Dive Demon Hunter was the most popular and strongest deck in the game. Right now it’s still good, but it has dropped down quite significantly (both in terms of play rate and win rate). The top spot was taken by Paladin. As it turns out, adding Sea Shanty to Ursol Paladin and making it more aggressive in general has been a great idea. You still have that insanely powerful late game with Corrupted Dream cards, but now you can also win many games with early stacked Vicious Slitherspear or mid game tempo from discounted Flickering Lightbot/Sea Shanty. Some people even cut the Ursol + Shaladrassil package, although the stats so far show that it’s an inferior version.

Death Knight has been losing some steam. Leech versions keep getting less common and they have actually been overtaken by Handbuff. Handbuff DK is surprisingly strong, although it doesn’t have a great matchup against neither Ursol Paladin, nor Zarimi Priest (which is still very common outside of Legend). Then there’s Menagerie build, which stood the test of time and turned out to be more than flavor of the month.

Rogue has been doing very well in higher ranks, the class has multiple viable builds with Protoss, Pirate, Ashamane etc. While I’m not a big Rogue fan, even I have been enjoying the class, because it seems to go back to its Tempo roots, which is a nice change of pace (most of the viable Rogue decks for a long time have been relying on insane combos or mana cheats). Then we have Mage, a class is right now mostly a one-trick pony with the Protoss package, although surprisingly we see some Spell Mage builds popping up (statistically they are weak, but they are pretty fun to play).

New versions of Wheel Warlock including Starship package have been seeing some play and the results are… okay. It’s probably a Tier 3 deck, but if you want a slow Warlock build then that’s the best thing there is. Mill Warlock is still semi-popular in high Legend, but seen zero play outside of it. And that’s fair, even when playing against it I have no idea what’s happening half of the time. Only a few players really mastered it, and maybe that’s for the best, because it’s probably not a play style an average player would appreciate.

Other classes didn’t have that many developments – Priest and Druid are still using basically the same builds (Zarimi and Imbue). Without innovation, people are optimizing their decks and strategies against them and they slowly but surely drop in win rate (especially Imbue Druid which is now around low Tier 2). Hunter is becoming more and more niche every day since the balance patch (Imbue Hunter is okay at lower ranks, but it falls off pretty quickly). Warrior and Shaman are basically nowhere to be seen.

While I still expect some incremental changes, that might be mostly it, we might no longer see any bigger meta shifts. As I’ve said last week, the next big opportunity for meta changes is the mini-set. This time it’s dropping earlier than usual – in the 32.2 patch cycle instead of the usual 32.4. Battlegrounds portion of the patch was already announced earlier this week, but we still have no info about the mini-set. I hope we’ll hear more about it soon.
