Cinematic Trailer

Pre-Purchase

Once again, we’ll have two different pre-order bundles. You can get the bundles here. Here’s what they include and how much they cost:

Descent of Dragons Pre-Order Bundle ($49.99)

  • 60 Descent of Dragons Card Packs
  • Random Golden Legendary
  • The Shattering Card Back
  • Early access to Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Descent of Dragons Mega Pre-Order Bundle ($79.99)

  • 100 Descent of Dragons Card Packs
  • Random Golden Legendary
  • Deathwing Warrior Cosmetic Hero
  • The Shattering Card Back
  • Early access to Hearthstone Battlegrounds

Galakrond Hero Card

Galakrond is the new Hero card available for all five E.V.I.L. classes. Players will get all five copies of him for free! Simply log in during the first 90 days after expansion, and you can enjoy the new Galakrond Hero!

Galakrond is always a 7 mana Hero card, but starts as a pretty weak one, getting upgraded over time as you play Invoke cards. You need to Invoke him twice for the first upgrade, and twice more to get to his final form (so four Invokes in total). Here’s an example transformation path:

Importantly, Invoke cards also trigger Galakrond’s Hero Power! For example, if you run the Rogue version listed above and you play an Invoke card, you will also add a random Lackey to your hand (because Galakrond's Guile is its Hero Power).

Learn more about Galakrond Hero cards here!

League of Explorer classes will not have access to Galakrond, but they will get their own Legendary Dragon minions!

Note: Galakronds are counted as extra cards, which means that each E.V.I.L. class will have 3 Legendaries in total, bumping a total number of cards to 140!

Sidequests

Sidequests are a new mechanic in Descent of Dragons. They work similarly to regular Quests – you play them and get a reward after finishing them. However, they DO NOT start in your opening hand – you draw them like regular cards. Since they are not Legendary, you can also run two copies in your deck.

Just like regular Quests, you can finish them over multiple turns.

The Sidequests we’ve seen so far already show that they can be pretty powerful in the right deck – as long as you mean a certain condition, you pay low amount of mana for an effect worth multiple times more!

Anyone remember when there was like a couple dozen neutral commons in an expansion instead of 6?

Since dust cost is rising, make sure you are careful with your dust this holiday season ladies and gentlemen.

      December 3, 2019 at 11:38 am

You do realize that not all of the cards have been revealed yet, right? Most of the cards the dump out after the final reveal stream usually are a bunch of pack filler commons and rares that aren’t all that great. I’m assuming the author did not leave blank cards in this article because we don’t necessarily know how many of each rarity we will get.

      • Jed
        December 3, 2019 at 6:47 pm

My bad, on the classes they were showing unrevealed class cards with the card back and I thought they were doing the same for the neutrals.

    • A person who reacts to this
      December 3, 2019 at 12:16 pm

Yes there used to be around 22 neutral common cards, now there isn’t even half that, yet I don’t really mind, since most neutral common often were mediocre at best, and now even if you draw the same amount of neutral common you will get all off them faster and can then dust the extras.

        December 3, 2019 at 12:20 pm

But yeah there will probably be more since so far only 118 cards are listed here on the site (Including the hidden class cards, so guess there will be many more commons.

I have to say that after the downside that hearthstone is facing right now, this new expansion looks super promising.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      November 5, 2019 at 5:13 am

In my opinion, this entire year was great compared to last year. Even if not everything worked out perfectly, devs are showing that they want to experiment with new things. 2018 was getting really stale and way too “safe”. Pretty much the only unique thing was Boomsday’s Puzzle Lab (which is IMO the only downside of this year – as much as I like Dungeon Run style of single player content, I would like to see something else).

      • PPAP
        November 5, 2019 at 8:11 am

Well, they said the singleplayer content for DoD is an adventure, which is better than another dungeon run (for me, I really enjoyed the OG run and the dalaran heist, and less the monster hunt and ToT). But this year is certainly the best, and not boring like last year or crazy powerful like the mammoth (KFT and KnC). I think that adventures are the best way to tell a story, and luckily, we have one the greatest story in hearthstone history (George and Karl saga /s). I’m actually pretty excited for this expansion and hope ot will live up to the expectations.

is a bundle giveaway scheduled for this expansion?
    All hail Galakrond!

  25. A person who reacts to this
    November 3, 2019 at 2:14 am

All the Galakrond designs just seem off too me. If you compare them to all other dragon cards the design is just not as good.

The new warrior hero is also stuck with some wierd facial expression. I think it would have looked cooler with a more relaxed and intimidating face. This just looks like a kid who found his dad’s dragon armor and tries to look scary.

Otherwise I love the new expansion idea.

    November 2, 2019 at 5:17 pm

So, I think StoneKeep won’t do another card reviews anymore, since he either super busy, or he did that already by commenting every new cards himself. (sadly, but I hope I’m wrong)
A pity though. I kind of like a more thorough card reviews.
Well, best of luck on the ongoing new cards and Battleground.

    • H0lysatan
      November 2, 2019 at 5:35 pm

and btw, why does EVIL class have 3 Legendary Cards in total, while the other has 2?
so far every expansion only introduced 2 Legendary Cards for each Classes.
I know about the uncertainty of cards in Neutral, but this is Class Cards.

      • Stonekeep - Site Admin
        November 2, 2019 at 6:05 pm

Five Galkarond Hero cards will be “extra” cards given out to everyone for free, so they won’t count for the usual 2 Legendary / class limit. It will also push the total amount of cards in the set from 135 to 140.

It was confirmed by HS designer Puffinplays today 🙂

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      November 2, 2019 at 6:03 pm

Actually, I will do card reviews 🙂 It’s just that I was busy with handling all of the BlizzCon news and updating stuff so far. But I should be able to finish it early next week.

Y’all are fixated on the high cost high powered cards and invoking… I’m just going to say it, the Hunter cards seem craaaaazy. It’s already a premier aggro class but man, Hunter is going to be super frustrating to play against.

Totally with you mate. The powerlevel so far seems huge!
A lot of “discover” stuff and Dragons Dragons Dragons!
Huge synergy with “If you are holding a Dragon”.
And than these 5 heroes for free. I mean it feels like Blizzard learned a lot.
The opening speech on the mainstage was huge and very well thought out.
      That was simply incredible.
Overwatch 2, Diablo 4. Most people were not excited for the Hearthstone stage. But for me, as a part of that community mostly, iam hyped for all games and cinematics they showed us. I had tears in my eyes after Overwatch 2. Holy cow.

  30. Spidermannerdlikeme

I’m super hyped and they released a bunch of cards early on but dragons aren’t really my thing plus a lot of classes can’t afford a race Thaler don’t have synergies for, plus all the non evil classes feel left out of the new mechanic, though giving away the hero for free is cool, I was worried they’d stop using hero cards

  31. Skoopy

Simple question with simple answer for sure:
every class is getting a Galakrond?

    • Cursore1610

Only the League of EVIL classes.

    • Stonekeep - Site Admin
      November 1, 2019 at 1:49 pm

EVIL Classes – Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior. And we’re getting all five for free.

  32. Smasher101
    November 1, 2019 at 1:08 pm

So what does the new mechanic do?

    • OldManSanns
      November 1, 2019 at 2:01 pm

Think of Invoke like old school C’Thun mechanics except from a hero card instead of a minion. Whenever you play say “Shield of Galakrond”, your Galakrond (whether its in deck or in hand) gets buffed–then you play it later for a huge effect. The exact effect differs for each class: the example they gave is priest destroys 1/2/4 random enemies if you’ve invoked at least 0/2/4 times, respectively. If you invoke 4 times, you also get a 5/2 weapon. And some cards gain effects based on the number of times you’ve previously invoked.

They also said something about whenever you Invoke, your get the effect of whatever your future hero power–the example they gave was Rogue-Galakrond’s hero power is “Add a random lackey to hand”, so for 5 mana you get a 4/5 taunt, a buff to your Galakrond (assuming you haven’t played it yet), and a random lackey in hand.

      • Skoopy
        November 2, 2019 at 5:37 am

        Thats not correct orderwise.
You dont get the lackey if you havent played your Galakrond.

“”Add a random lackey to hand”, so for 5 mana you get a 4/5 taunt, a buff to your Galakrond (assuming you haven’t played it yet), and a random lackey in hand.”

So you dont get the Lackey for playing that 4/5 taunt, if there is no Galakrond. 🙂
So play Invoke 2 times each, to upgrade it, wherever Galakrond is. You dont upgrade him, if he is played already and if he is active your Invoke cards will trigger your Heropower.
Just to clarify, iam sure you meant that.

What iam not sure about: You can use your heropower for 2 mana anyway. Does is trigger twice a turn? With Invoke once and than by 2 Mana?

        • Zuko
          November 4, 2019 at 12:45 am

There is gameplay on the reveal trailer.Invoking means you trigger the hero power also without Galakrond being played yet. When Galakrond is active I am not sure myself.Watch the trailer.Cheers

In case no one noticed that yet:

They updated the Blizzcon Virtual Ticket ad and now it shows the free golden legendary we’re getting:

    Sathrovarr 9-mana 5/? demon
Battlecry: Choose a friendly minion. Add a copy of it to your hand, deck, and battlefield

  34. H0lysatan
    November 1, 2019 at 12:28 pm

Does it mean that every Evil-League will have at least 1 dragon archetype like Rogue?
or other class will get Galakrond, with a different Battlecry? Since there are Neutral “Invoke-Galakrond” minions.

    • H0lysatan
      November 1, 2019 at 12:32 pm

Feeling that this expansions will features a lot of dragon-type minions.
Dragon Paladin will finally set off.
and Dragon Rogue could actually coming up too.

Dragon Rogue just won’t work unless we get cheaper dragons, the only time rogue has ever used an expensive minion was n’zoth and blade of cthun (plus cthun) in some memey rogue cthun decks, overall dragons are generally a very mana expensive race, and rogue simply isn’t adept and playing big stuff, rogue is the opposite of Druid (although I guess token Druid is a thing so)
