Chromatic Egg

Chromatic Egg Card

Chromatic Egg is a 5 Mana Cost Epic Neutral Minion card from the Descent of Dragons set!

Card Text

Battlecry: Secretly Discover a Dragon to hatch into. Deathrattle: Hatch!

Flavor Text

Nefarian was known for creating two things: horrible monsters and excellent breakfasts.

Chromatic Egg Additional Information

“Secretly” works like Druid’s Fatespinner – you get to choose, but once it hits the board, it just shows a “Secret Deathrattle” and your opponent doesn’t know what you’ve picked (until it dies and a new minions pops out, that is).

Will this work with Spirit of the Shark and quest Shaman? 2 battlecries, but only 1 deathrattle….

In some cases it can beat the other eggs but only if can high roll in others it can be a huge waste. But if run in deathrattle decks can get some real value including rogue can make this a 1/1 card. Basically this is a card that’s iffy depending on your luck.

I like it. They tried to pull out something much like Mechano Egg and Robosaur, but it’s for a Dragon Egg, and you don’t have a Tribe Text. Not even a Dragon Text. Discovering a Dragon means that you can fetch some of the more bigger bodies, (Arguably you are going to find an 8/8 on average, which is why players are rating it 3 stars, since they’ve kinda alright saw a card like this, but they just changed the flavour a little bit here and there.) but optimistically, you can still have the chance to hatch a 12/12 Body; Deathwing, or hatching into a usual Dragon, much like normal Ysera. That’s kinda the goal of what the Egg wanted to be. I Suppose Rouges could try it out and see how it goes, or perhaps druid, but our history of Eggs (Expect for Swamp Dragon Egg) has always been Negated at first, before power spiking like crazy, because they were able to cheat out the Deathrattle. So Obvious all is not lost for Chromatic Egg, but we just need some more tools to make it work. 3 Stars.

This presumably will discover just from your class and neutral dragons, right?

Proabably too expensive for an egg, and can backfire really hard. Also bad to summon.

I assume this’ll just take from the sum pool of dragons, not that there’s a specific set of dragons it can hatch into? I also wonder how it’d work with Quest Shaman, would it hatch into two dragons, or “take” the second one?

Most dragons we’ve seen so far are just OK to hatch from this. While most we’ve seen are expensive/big-bodied, many have battlecries that’ll go to waste. And it’s possible to low-roll and be forced to hatch into Azure Explorer or whatever. The fact that it only gains Deathrattle on battlecry is kinda a bummer in niche cases (can’t be Anka’d/Necrium Apothcary’d, bad if revived, bad if yanked from your hand/deck, etc)

The vibe I’m getting is that this is worse than Mechano-Egg and Mechanical Whelp, but with them rotating out, we’ll lose the best “big egg” cards in standard, leaving this as the (so far) only alternative.

This definitely works as deathrattle card since it doesn’t gain it, it’s just if you summon it without it doesn’t hatch anything, You can apothecary you just won’t summon anything, the interaction could be interesting if you play the egg before apothecary dies…

Definitely not as good as Mechano or Whelp, however the high roll potential is insane with this card with possibly getting something like Ysera, but that’s nearly impossible, and at that point, just run Ysera…
