Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Into the Emerald Dream (Week 7) – May 2025

I skipped last week because I was taking some time off, but to be completely honest, you didn’t miss much. It’s been over 5 weeks since the last balance update. The first post-patch week was actually very interesting – we had constant meta developments. Even 2 weeks after the patch, we still saw some innovations and power level shifts. But the last 3 or so weeks have been very stale, with basically zero new developments.

Paladin has been the strongest and most popular deck at basically all ranks. It’s quite rare for the same deck to dominate both top Legend and Bronze, but Shanty Paladin is just incredibly consistent. It’s not the most broken deck of all time – it’s obviously very good, but it’s not unbeatable. The main issue is that seeing the same deck all the time for multiple weeks in a row makes things incredibly boring. The top 3 on most of the ladder has been Shanty Paladin, Zarimi Priest and Cliff Dive Demon Hunter. For example – in Diamond, you’ll play against them in half of your games on average. You’ll see them over and over and over again. And that just gets old very quickly.

This expansion had a really weird schedule in general (for balance updates, mini-set, even Arena revamp that got delayed). I’m glad that it’s just a one-time thing and we’re going back to a regular release cadence next time. Blizzard really should have included some Standard changes the Battlegrounds Season 10 patch (32.2), it would have been a perfect opportunity for a shake-up before the mini-set.

Anyway, at least we won’t have to wait long until the next content drop. The Embers of the World Tree mini-set is coming out on May 13 (Tuesday). Its power level looks mid overall, but there are some standout cards that should see play. We can only hope that it alters the meta enough. Or that we get some nerfs to the current meta tyrants at the same time…
