Free New & Returning Player Decks Will Be Updated on July 30

Great news for people who haven’t played last expansion or are just starting. The list of new / returning player decks is getting updated soon, on July 30. The system was introduced before Ashes of Outland and lets the players catch up by picking a fully working deck and getting all of the cards in that build. Interestingly, Demon Hunter is absent – you can’t pick the class yet.

And now it’s more clear for returning – you need to be inactive for 120 days (roughly the entire expansion) to be eligible for a free deck.

If you’re wondering which one to pick – yeah, it’s tough. Mostly because we have absolutely no clue what the upcoming meta will look like, so it’s impossible to say which deck will be strongest or have the best upgrade path. We’ll definitely write an in-depth article about it after Scholomance Academy launches. For now, you can consider picking the one which has good Legendaries that you’re missing. I think that the best pick would be Highlander Hunter. Not only it gives you three singleton Legendaries – Zephrys the Great, Dinotamer Brann and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza, but it’s also the strongest deck in the current meta. I would be surprised if it didn’t see any play in a few weeks. Plus I’m quite sure that Highlander decks will be viable until the end of this year, so snatching Zephrys & Alex is nice. Alternatively, Galakrond Rogue (Flik Skyshiv, Heistbaron Togwaggle and Kronx Dragonhoof), Dragon Druid (Alexstrasza, Ysera, Unleashed) and Warrior (Ancharrr, Captain Greenskin) seem to be decent choices if you’re missing those Legendaries..

But for now, here’s the full list of decks:

Deck Import

The Druids have allied with Ysera and her Green Dragonflight! Ramp your mana and unleash the might of the Dragons.

Deck Import

Mage’s excel at spellcasting, and that “spells” defeat for your opponent! You won’t need any minions in your deck to ice out the competition.

Deck Import

Wisdom, Justice, and Hope unite to guide the Paladin class to victory! Unlock the true power of the Paladin by building a deck using only their class cards.

Deck Import

If 2 copies of a minion just isn’t enough, then this is the deck for you! Play powerful taunt minions and resurrect them until your opponent has run out of resources.

Deck Import

The progenitor of dragons has returned, and he isn’t going down without a fight! Command an army of Lackeys to show your opponent that EVIL will always reign supreme!

Deck Import

While Galakrond commands the skies, The Lurker Below has dominion over the seas. Play it at the right time to wash away your competition!

Deck Import

All hands and hooks on deck! Swarm the board with pirates, but manage your resources carefully or you might just end up walking the plank!

And you can find the official post below:

The decks awarded to new and returning players will be updated on July 30! We’ve also made it easier for returning players to claim the free deck by removing the prerequisite of completing the returning player experience.* So long as you’ve been away for 120 days, you’ll be prompted with the deck grant right after you log in!

As a reminder, here is how it works for new players:

  • Log into Hearthstone and complete the tutorial and the Starter Quest line.
  • You will need to graduate from the New Player Ranks (Ranks 40-1).
  • Upon completing these quests, you will be able to select your free Class Deck once you return to the main menu.

It’s possible you may not see the deck in your deck list if you did not have an open deck slot when you chose your free Class Deck. If this happens, don’t worry! You will still receive all the cards from that deck. If you would like to delete one of your existing decks, you can then navigate back to this page and use our deck list. From here, copy the deck code, and you can then add the deck to your deck list from within Hearthstone.

*Limited one per account. A returning player is defined as one who has not logged into Hearthstone for 120 consecutive days. If you’re returning to Hearthstone on 7/30/2020, your last log in needs to be before 4/1/2020 to qualify.

Hunter is the best so far. Free Zephrys and Alexstrasza are amazing additions to your collection, one of the strongest legendaries of current Standard AND Wild. Zephrys Hunter kinda Tier-1 these days, so 100% pick

Yeah, like I’ve mentioned in the post, DH is missing for some reason. Maybe it will get added to the pool before the decks are released or something.

Rouge is generous with the amount of legendary.

You can’t really count Galakrond, because it’s free. But yeah, it’s still 3x good Legendary. However, two of those are Rogue, so it’s best if you play the class a lot.
