Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Across the Timeways (Week 7) – December 2025

Last week’s roundup was written shortly after a balance update, which buffed about a dozen of cards. Back then I said that while it’s still early, the meta doesn’t seem to be changing drastically. 7 days later, I stand by those words, although I was a bit surprised by a popularity of a certain unassuming deck.

I’m talking about Rafaam Warlock, of course. Is it any good after the buffs? No, not really. It’s still a sub-40% win rate deck. A meme deck if you would. However, it’s play rate has shot through the roof. Previously it was maybe around 1%, but after the patch, it’s one of the most popular decks… with a caveat. It’s mostly played at lower ranks – once you get to high Diamond and Legend it drops down to almost zero, but at lower ranks it sits around 6-8% play rate. That’s very rare for such a weak deck. But I get why – it’s actually fun to play, so the buffs gave people a push to try it out. It would still need quite a lot more to be playable, though.

I think the Rafaam package itself is already good enough (although it’s still incredibly easy to counter with Dirty Rat), the problem is that Warlock’s control package is very underwhelming right now. Control Warlock has been good at many points, be it with Wheel version, Yore version, or Starship version, but every one of those has been nerfed. Maybe if the class gets some new strong tools with the mini-set and/or the next expansion, that would be enough for the deck to shine.

The only other meta shift is – as you have probably also suspected – No Minion Demon Hunter. Unlike Rafaam Warlock, this one is actually playable at a higher level. In fact, the deck is stronger at higher ranks, since it’s not the easiest deck to pilot correctly. In Top 1k Legend I’d say that it’s around high tier 2, while at lower ranks it drops to low Tier 2/Tier 3.

Other than that, it’s the same old story. But I have to say that the current meta is surprisignly balanced. Win rates are not perfect (top decks sit at over 55% win rate which is never great), but play rates are really nice. The only outlier is Midrange Shaman in Diamond, at around 20% play rate, but that’s nothing out of ordinary tbh. There’s always this one “tryhard” deck that people use when they are close to Legend and want to finish their push. If we ignore that one deck in one rank range (and maybe the Top 100 pocket meta), there’s only a few other decks that exceed ~5% play rate. We have probably around 20-25 Tier 1 and 2 decks that are all good enough to climb with. Every class has at least one viable option and while you might not like it (e.g. I know that many Priest “mains” don’t like Protoss version), it’s there. Warlock is probably the one struggling the most, with Shred Warlock being its best deck, but it’s barely on the Tier 2/3 edge (but at least you can meme with Rafaam).

So long story short, while the balance update didn’t make the meta way more diverse, it didn’t necessarily need to. Of course, it’s is still full of old problems – many popular decks being the same ones we’ve been seeing for multiple expansions at this point (just with some glow-up after each set). But at this point I doubt that’s going to change until the rotation. Given how many 2024 cards are key for lots of decks to function, I’m really looking forward to that massive shake-up.

Oh, and one more thing – I almost surely won’t have another deck roundup next Sunday because I will be taking most of the week off for Christmas. So the next roundup is going to be in 2 weeks, after New Year. But I doubt that the meta is going to change drastically until then, so everything i posted lately should be relevant. Happy Holidays everyone!
