It’s been quite an eventful week… for Battlegrounds. 32.2 patch notes were released, so we’ve seen all of the new minions, trinkets, and so on. However, in terms of Constructed, there’s really not that much. The only thing we’ve learned is the release date of the mini-set – May 13. Right now we only know that it’s called “Embers of the World Tree” and that it’s centered around Druids of the Flame. We should learn more “soon”.
Assuming they want to show the cards before patch drops (otherwise they will be datamined anyway, unless they will have a separate data patch for the mini-set, but I doubt that), they will have to do it tomorrow. So either they will speed run through a card reveal season or just throw them all in online at once. We’ll see how it works out.
As for the meta itself, this is probably the first week since expansion’s launch where I don’t have much to say. It’s been over three weeks since the last balance update, so the “discovery” period couldn’t last forever. Right now we’re entering the usual period of deck optimization and small power level shifts. The strongest decks haven’t really changed – Shanty Ursol Paladin, Zarimi Priest, Dive Demon Hunter, Menagerie & Handbuff Death Knight, Protoss Rogue… Other decks keep on slipping – Leech Death Knight and Imbue Druid look weaker each week, but people still keep playing them.
In fact, slower decks look rough in general. Early Emerald Dream meta was quite greedy, but Control decks now can’t keep up . It doesn’t mean that people don’t play them – on the contrary. Leech DK or Wheel Warlock are still pretty popular despite dropping down to Tier 3. In fact, Old Guardian just wrote an interesting article about this yesterday – nearly every meta we have some decks that are way more popular than their stats would suggest simply because there’s a big portion of the playerbase who likes this playstyle and there’s nothing else that offers it. You can check it out here.
I’ll probably skip the next weekly Legend decks roundup because I’m taking a few days off to visit family, but honestly, I don’t really expect any breakthroughs until May 13 (mini-set) anyway.
Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
