Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – Across the Timeways (Week 6) – December 2025

Usually I skip the weekly roundup so shortly after a balance update, because it makes many of the older decks irrelevant. However, I decided to go for it this time, because it was purely a buff patch – none of the old stuff got nerfed. On top of that, the particular buff targets were… well, a big portion of the patch was spent on very bad decks like Handbuff Priest or Rafaam Warlock. And while it’s too early to be certain, it doesn’t look like those decks became playable after the patch. I actually find both of them fun so I wish they were, but that’s what it is.

Again, while it’s too early to be sure, it looks like the patch didn’t make a huge difference. All of the buffed decks, except Aura Paladin, still seem to have sub-50% win rate. There’s a chance that people haven’t figured out the best builds yet, the experiements are still ongoing. I could see No Minion DH climbing into the playable range – yesterday Jambre has already proven that the deck can work well, he went on a 13 wins streak with it. I wouldn’t get too excited and run to craft it yet, but at the very least it shows that the deck has some potential.

Oh, there was actually one meta development, but it’s not actually related to the balance patch. People started playing Location/Azshara Druid again and it looks solid. The deck was briefly popular earlier into the expansion, but the new event card (Welcome Home!) was quite a significant buff to it. The idea of the deck is that you empower Zin-Azshari with Lady Azshara and it copies the minion (preferably one with Charge) while doulbing its stats. And, of course, it stacks, so if you used it multiple times on the same minion, you could quadruple or even octuple its stats. Before, you had to make multiple copies of the location (with Scrapbooking Student, but thanks to the new Event spell you have another way to do it + it makes the combo turns less awkward (with multiple Locations you ran into a lot of board space issues). It was a pretty sigficant buff for the deck that pushed it up to Tier 2.

But back to the patch itself. My guess as to why it was mostly meh is that they didn’t want to mess up the meta so close to World Championship. The tournament starts next Thursday, and players have to submit their decks even earlier (usually around 48h before). If we had a massive shake-up, there’s no way they would have enough time to prepare. Well, at least that’s my theory, otherwise I don’t understand why they wouldn’t make some bigger buffs. Decks like Rafaam Warlock or Handbuff Priest could be buffed WAY more before they even become good, let alone problematic.

So if you don’t like the current meta, you have to wait about a month for the mini-set. We don’t know the exact release date, but it should arrive in mid-January (I already said it before, but my guess is either January 13 or 20). And, of course, we can’t be sure how impactful the mini-set is going to be. But that’s still your best bet, because unless players work some miracles with the recent buffs, I don’t think the meta will shift drastically until then.
