Last year sure was a ride, but 2026 is finally here. While we’ll have to wait for a while until the Hearthstone’s new Standard year begins (most likely sometime in March), the mini-set is on a horizon, giving us the next opportunity to see some meta shifts.
I skipped last week’s roundup because I was on a Christmas break, and I honestly didn’t think that the meta is going to change whatsoever. But as it turns out, I was wrong. Rogue players deliver (once again) and show that the class can get nerfed a thousand of times, but as long as Shadowstep and Preparation are still there, the class will still be viable. This time the new Rogue deck is yet another “pile of good cards” deck, similar to Fyrakk Rogue which has been dominating a few months ago. This time the deck is called “Ashamane Rogue”, “Elise Rogue” or just… “Cards Rogue”. As the last name suggests, it has no single specific win condition, it simply runs a lot of strong tempo plays and A LOT of late game staying power. And as it turns out, that’s often enough (in fact that’s how most of the decks worked in the distant past).
However, the “new” Rogue is more like an addition to the meta, not a meta breaker. It’s not countered by anything, but it also doesn’t counter anything. It slotted neatly between other good decks that are, well, still good decks. So ultimately, not much has changed and other than the “Good Cards” Rogue becoming popular again after we thought that it was gone with Fyrakk. Some players are experimenting with other decks like Unholy Death Knight or Aggro Shaman, but they haven’t really caught on (at least not yet)
Either way, we should hear about the upcoming mini-set soon. I’m still suspecting either January 13 or 20 as a release date, and I hope for the former, because I feel like we could really use a breath of fresh air.
Below is a full list of the Legend decks from last week, sorted by the highest placement.
