It’s happening! The mini-set (Echoes of the Infinite) is dropping next Tuesday. This week is pretty light in new decks because we had a short, but busy card reveal season mid-week. You can find all of the new cards here in case you haven’t seen them yet. I’m gonna talk a bit about the mini-set in this writeup since not much has happened in the meta anyway.
The new cards are, as usual, a pretty mixed bag. We have some clear stinkers like Bitter End, DK’s Hero Power or Endtime Murozond. The last one at least has a cool design, although giving your opponent 2 turns in a row is usually not gonna end well, any deck with any sort of late game combo or ability to create a big board out of nowhere is going to crush it. On the other hand, we have some cards that looks crazy good, such as Prescient Slitherdrake (4 mana 6/9 with Elusive if you’re playing a Dragon deck), Eternal Toil (very flexible, cheap damage spell that can also activate “damaged” synergies) and Remnant of Rage (it’s gonna come down as a 0 mana 6/5 that draws 2 cards soooo often).
We also have some stuff that I’m honestly not sure about. For example the new Quest – Battle at the End Time. The reward is insanely powerful, but the Quest itself might be very hard to pull off. I can’t think of a good way to do it consistently while maintaining enough tempo to not just die to faster decks. Then again, I’m not a great deck builder myself, so maybe someone figures it out and then we’ll just Discard enemy hands left and right. Same thing for something like Rogue’s new Imbue (Blessing of the Bronze). It looks pretty promising, but Imbue cards are generally a big tempo loss compared to the other things you could have been doing for the same mana. The Hero Power itself is great for tempo… but only after you already get a few Imbues in. Once you get to 5+ mana discount, even bad, expensive minions are going to be great because you can drop them for cheap or even free. But your early-mid game might be a bit too slow. So I’m not sure if Rogue will embrace Imbue or stick to the already tested “pile of good cards” decks.
All in all, I think it’s safe to say that it’s going to have at least some impact on the meta. Dragon decks in particular got a major buff, which is a bit worrying given that Dragon Warrior was already a very strong deck. But we’ll see how it goes. There are also a few cards I could see being playable in Wild (such as Splintered Reality in Treant Druid, which is a quite viable deck). But as is always the case with the mini-sets, it’s not gonna to be a total revamp of the meta as a full expansion might be, so we need to keep our expectations in check.
If they follow the usual release cadence, we should see a balance patch within 2 weeks of the mini-set, and then… well, it depends. The last few months (ever since the Un’Goro mini-set) has been pretty light on the Constructed balance changes, so it might actually be the last one in this Standard year. Because in case you forgot, the rotation is happening quite soon (with the first expansion of 2026, so probably around mid-March unless something changes). Either way, the new couple of months are going to be busy, because there’s always a lot of news and exciting stuff around the new Standard year & Core Set rotation.
