Top Standard & Wild Legend Decks – The Lost City of Un’Goro (Week 8) – August 2025

This week’s roundup will be pretty light on decks, for two reasons. First – we had mini-set card reveals so I focused on that. And second, maybe more important, there just wasn’t enough decks to share. Most players are done with the current meta, so it’s really getting tough to find something. Fewer people play and those that play aren’t exciting to share the same deck again and again. Particularly when it comes to high Legend decks, where every second high rank player was using Fyrakk Rogue. And I couldn’t just share 5 Fyrakk Rogue decks every single day.

The mini-set is almost upon us, and let’s be honest – there’s a lot at stake here. The Lost City of Un’Goro has been one of the lowest impact expansions since launch. Blizzard had two months to do something about it but they really struggled – we had some buffs, but it was clearly not enough. So players were anxiously waiting for the mini-set in hopes that the meta will improve, or even if not improve at least change because how long can you face the same decks over and over again.

So, will it fix the issues? It’s impossible to tell without playing the cards first, but my guess is that it really won’t. Remember how they implied that they don’t want to buff Quest cards further because they want to monitor their performance after the mini-set? Well… After seeing that, players have assumed that mini-set is going to have lots of Quest support. But it really doesn’t. Most of the new cards are pretty random and don’t even go into Quest decks. We have SOME support cards but they aren’t going to matter for most of the bad Quest decks.

For example – yes, Crystal Tusk looks good in Quest Rogue… but Quest Rogue is so far down in the gutter that one good card is not going to matter. Quest Demon Hunter and Druid are in a similar situation, although less dire. The new Horn of Feasting and Longneck Egg are okay support cards, but they could make a difference if the decks were at 45% win rate right now, not sub 40%. Quest Mage got Techysaurus, but the best Quest Mage builds right now are Spell-based, so they won’t run it. And some classes got exactly zero support cards for their Quest (like Hunter).

Ironically, the Quest support card that seems to matter most is Firegill. And it’s for a Quest that needed the extra support the least. Firegill is actually really solid, Quest Paladin has good matchup vs slower decks (because of infinitely growing stats), but it can struggle against Aggro. And Rush minions are very important in those matchups because they let you swing the board around after you get 1-2 buffs from the Quest. This is like an Animated Broomstick on steroids for Murloc Paladin. And I’m sure that majority of players will appreciate Murloc Paladin becoming stronger than it is right now (it has only been the most popular and one of the strongest decks in Silver-Platinum ranks since the expansion’s launch).

The rest of the cards in the mini-set is also pretty meh. Both Neutral Legendaries are very slow and honestly don’t do much for the meta. Beast Speaker Taka is great if you high-roll something like Tortolla, but on average it doesn’t seem great and it’s certainly not exciting. And The Egg of Khelos genuinely seems like a card that could have been released in the original Un’Goro. A few classes got a good card here and there but they don’t seem enough to push them in a new direction. Overall mini-sets aren’t known for being incredibly impactful (other than StarCraft), but we really needed something with a punch to wake up the slumbering meta.

But of course, I hope that I’m wrong. I want the game to be fun. Both because I just like playing it and because a fun game literally translates to more website visits for us (people aren’t looking for new decks when they don’t enjoy the meta and play less/take a break from the game). It’s just that after seeing all the cards, my hopes aren’t very high. But at least we won’t have to wait long to find out – it drops in just 2 days, on Tuesday.
