Madness at the Darkmoon Faire Card List & Expansion Guide! Release Date, Card Reveals, Pre-Purchase Info, New Mechanics and More!

Click here to skip the guide and quickly jump to revealed cards!

Madness at the Darkmoon Faire is the upcoming Hearthstone expansion. While the denizens of Azeroth may expect an outing filled with family-friendly fun at the fairgrounds, they’ll instead find a creepy carnival corrupted by rigged games of chance, deep-fried foods of mysterious origin, and the tentacled grips of unspeakable horrors.

The Old Gods are timeless eldritch beings who ruled over Azeroth during its primordial age. In World of Warcraft, they slithered out from their millennia-long slumber only to be beaten to a squishy pulp by bands of plucky adventurers.

New Keyword/Mechanic – Corrupt

This expansion’s new mechanic is Corrupt. It might sound a bit confusing at first, but it’s actually quite simple!

When a Corrupt card is in your hand, it usually starts off quite weak. However, you can upgrade it by playing a card that’s more expensive than the Corrupt card. So, for example, if you have a 3 mana Corrupt card in your hand, you need to play any card that costs 4 or more to upgrade it.

It means that, outside of some very rare scenarios, you can’t play a Corrupt card on curve and still get its full effect. So you will have to pick between playing a weak card on curve or skipping it and waiting until you Corrupt it. The upside is that Corrupted versions of the card are way above the usual power level of the card. For example, Corrupted version of Day at the Faire is a 3 mana version of Stand Against Darkness, while Corrupted version of Dunk Tank is a significantly stronger Swipe for the same cost.

Do we have any info regarding the 35 cards from the mini set?
Whether they are using same pack as Darkmoon Packs or not?
Because if they are, then it might be a good idea to save packs from monthly rewards.

Now that the whole expansion is revealed, it gives me the impression that it doesn’t go anywhere. I mean I don’t see these cards creating a new meta (more like reinforcing the existing one). It is going to light a candle for some time but not a bonfire. However, I might be wrong and I really hope that the old gods have mercy upon us all! 🙂

Suppose you buy the large bundle (5 golden + 80 regular packs). Now, you are guaranteed a legendary in the first 10 packs, right?
Any thoughts on how to maximize the chance of opening GOLDEN legendary within the first 10 packs? Open five regular packs and then 5 golden?

A quick question about the life shards are spells? I ask it because when you draw it casted. And it account for Yog Sarron 10 spells ?

Cast when drawn effects do not count as casting a spell (they kinda cast themself), but if you somehow get one in your hand and play it, then it counts as one.

I like it that the last legendary is a priest card, hope it get something special.

Like a 4 mana hero. Battlecry disable your hero power this game, set life to 15, 5 armor and summon all minions from your hand…..
(The hero power then is deal 10 damage, however since you can’t use your hero power this game it’s only useful to the enemy if they steal it).

Seems that DH will be totally OP… I already see 20 weapon damage and more… so boring and so not interactive… annoying meta incoming 🙁 hope that there will be some decks to keep this under control

It is striking that for the ‘Corrupt’ cards to really be useful, the meta needs to slow down. Because of the requirement to play higher cost cards (generally higher than 2) & you need to keep them in your hand for longer. Unless of course the cards/decks that run them are really powerful (https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/cards/yshaarj-the-defiler/ ?), or we get more ways to slow down aggro (https://www.hearthstonetopdecks.com/cards/renowned-performer/ seems like an example).

Power level of this release seems to be a higher as normal. What do you think?

    • StreetSl0th
      November 8, 2020 at 9:02 am

I think it seems lower. It’s normal for the power level to rise through the year and then lower at the start of next year again. So really it should be compared to the other December expansions. I don’t think this is anything at all compared to Descent of Dragons or Kobolds and Catacombs. I think it seems stronger than Rastakhan’s rumble, but that entire year was on the weaker side to turn down the heat a bit after Kobolds and Catacombs, I think.

What do you think after the lasts cards were released. I feel it is getting stronger and stronger

I agree, but I still think there is a long way to the two others. When Descent was being revealed it seemed like competition to make the strongest HS card of all time to me. I don’t have that feeling with anything from this expansion, but it does seem solid.
What I absolutely love, though, is all those flavourful cards.

Imagine the 5% Yogg determine the result of the HTC Global finals…. Don’t get me wrong I love the new Yogg…. for adventures, brawls and friendly games, but this is really bad for competative. I would say even worse than the old Yogg.

The small bundle is cheaper now.

One thing you probably miss, they mention about adding 35 cards on a mini set later on.
Probably like Galakrond’s Awakening, although I don’t know if it’s free or not.

I’m guessing it’s not. and I will spent hard earned gold to buy it again to be competitive.
Aaaah the P2W is too much to handle here.

They announced for the 35 card mini set that you can craft them or get them in Darkfaire packs after the mini set is released.
