Deck Import

I’ve been crushing the ladder with this deck. It excels against Hunters, OTK Paladins and Wall Priests.

A good Counterspell is a game changer. Players often ragequit after a countered Psychic Scream or Baited Arrow.

I play this deck similar to an Aggro Odd Mage, hitting the face whenever I can while secrets usually guarantee board dominance.

Cobalt Scalebane gives your small minions some extra meaning, as you usually have plenty of them on board.

Few players expect Zilliax in this build. Zilliax is your only heal / taunt. Use it wisely.

Replacements:

-Zilliax: Fungalmancer // Leeroy Jenkins // Clockwork Automation // Luna // Flamestrike.

-Subject 9: second Masked Contender // Luna // Flamestrike

-Jan’Alai: I do not recommend playing any Odd mage variation on ladder without this card. If you’d like to insist, try Clockwork Automation, Leeroy, Fungalmancer or Flamestrike.

Class strategy // mulligans:

-Mage: One of the few matchups I keep Jan’Alai on mulligan. Using it on curve is a game changer. Also look for counter spell and 1-cost minions.

-Paladin: Keep small minions for early game board control. Look for cinder storm // missiles as well.

-Priest: Look for secrets and Pyromaniac. If taken to late game, try to score a Counterspell after a board clear to avoid Spell Stone.

-Warlock:  Keep small minions for early game board control. Look for cinder storm // missiles // fire eater (for giants and big minions) as well.

-Hunter: You never know which archetype you’re facing. For this purpose, I pass on runes and look for cards that will help in most occasions. Counterspell is a great card against any Hunter archetype. I also look for Secretkeepers and Pyromaniacs.

-Shaman: Pyromaniac fantasy. Also good to have fire fly and black cat.

-Warrior: Kirin Tor Mage // Masked Contender. Having the right secrets at the right time will ease this matchup a lot. I usually save a Counterspell to avoid a round 5 Hero Power + Reckless Fury or Brawl. Most of the time you need Jan’Alai to win this matchup.

-Rogue: Hard mulligan Fire Eater to avoid early threats.

-Druid: All druid archetypes have a pretty similar win conditions, and they all rely on perfectly timed spells to work. Try to figure out your opponents variation and time your Counterspells accordingly.
