Mulligans
Aggro Mulligans
Against aggro these are some of your best stalling tools. Keleseth is great in this deck. Although there is merit to Doomsayer builds as well. Stonehill Defender fills the card drawing slot of at least replacing itself and giving a respectable body. Daring Fire-Eater pumps your hero power to clear larger early minions and work towards Jan'alai.
Control Mulligans
Against control you'll usually have a lot of time to set up and get to your late game pieces. It's normally fine to keep big minion/spell heavy hands, since you have time to work towards those goals. Polymorph is usually your best removal, neutralizing their most offensive threat, and pushing you that extra bit ahead to deploy bomb after bomb and overwhelm their removal and defenses. Keleseth and Arcane Tyrant are here because of their potential to buff your minions in deck, or create a large tempo swing on T5 (T4 with coin if the board warrants it!)
This is my take on the current crop of big mage lists that are running around on ladder. I opted to keep the even cards such as Blizzard and Lich King, in contrast to the odd builds that are mostly trying to power out Jan’Alai, as opposed to using it as just another late game tool in our arsenal. This build feels favored in the psuedo mirror, and feels strong VS aggro and control alike. It can struggle a bit against some all in combo lists, where their late game usually can trump even ours in the form of OTKs. That said this I think is a strong choice in the new metagame and I will be continuing to play and tweak this list, and update my thoughts here regularly.
