Rastakhan’s Rumble Midrange Beast Hunter: The Past and Future of the Archetype

I agree. Hunters are getting so many strong cards, but most of them cost 3. Like, you could pretty much make a deck with 30 good 3 mana cards in Hunter. On the other hand, their 2-drop, 4-drop and 5-drop options are pretty limited.

But I wouldn’t dismiss the Untamed Beastmaster version right away. You see, high rolling Beastmaster + Master’s Call can really make Hunter run away with the game. If only there was a stronger 4-drop…

Or maybe it’s worth to sacrifice even more consistency and run Houndmaster. The card would theoretically fit perfectly into a Hunter deck full of Beasts, but it would make Master’s Call low-roll much more often.

Rastakhan's Rumble Card Review #5 - Da Undatakah, Zul'jin, Mojomaster Zihi, Krag'wa, the Frog, Halazzi, the Lynx And More!

It wouldn’t give it +healing, but it would give it +damage under Auchenai effect. Auchenai turns all healing into damage, so temporary Spell Damage affects those.

Here’s an example proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ENJkgUaYlI

Healing Wave heals for 7 if you don’t win Joust. Then Malygos adds 5, Velen doubles that to 24 – it checks out. If it didn’t work, it would deal 14 damage.

Raiding Party draws you a weapon (with Combo). I figured that it’s better to draw something than nothing. Shadowblade is not the best card ever, but it’s playable, especially if you’ll often essentially get it for free.

Different strokes for different folks, we don’t appreciate shaming people for the decks they enjoy playing. Every single deck in the game has its own appeal and even if you don’t like it, it doesn’t mean that someone else can’t.

You’re actually right, how could I not think about that? I was considering Hadronox when first theorycrafting about the deck, but then realized that the first two decks probably don’t run enough Taunts to make it consistent. Then I’ve created a list full of Taunts and didn’t add Hadro. Welp.

I’ll come back to those lists when I finish all of my other theorycrafts, I should give them some updates before the launch!

I’ve actually finished theorycrafting post for Pirate Rogue yesterday, it should be up some time today 🙂

The thing is, you can’t run Plague with Witching Hour. Scarabs are Beasts and they can get revived too. If you play Plague, you cut Witching Hour, just like in the last build.

Having Oaken Summons increases the consistency of t4 play twice. Drawing either Golem or Summons means that you can play something on curve. Summons also thins your deck, which is generally positive. Also, don’t underestimate the value of 6 armor – it does wonders vs Aggro.

2x Golem + 2x Summons was tested before and it generally works well. But of course, a third minion (3-4 drop) can be added for consistency if necessary.

You’re right that you’d rather get something better, but 3 mana 5/5 as a worst case scenario isn’t that bad. The thing is, you won’t always be able to trigger Overkill, and if you will, you still have a much higher chance to get something better.

But those lists will definitely have to be optimized, that’s for sure.

Rastakhan's Rumble Card Review #4 - High Priest Thekal, Princess Talanji, Giftah, Akali, the Rhino, Wardruid Loti, Captain Hooktusk And More!

“What about it’s synergy with scarab egg? ”

It wasn’t revealed at the time I was writing this, and I didn’t have time to edit previous reviews.

I’ve already reviewed Scarab Egg and I mention Grim Rally in there, the combo has some potential. The final review compilation should come out soon (probably today/tomorrow).

BUT it won’t work like you’ve mentioned – the 3x 1/1 WON’T get buffed by Grim Rally. That would be absolutely broken.

Zul'jin

You’d absolutely play both in Spell Hunter, as they have different strengths. One is a long term, grindy, value play (DK) while this one is meant to be a finisher card that puts A LOT of the tempo on the board immediately.

Kingsbane Rogue Deck List Guide - Rastakhan - December 2018

You see, when you put a card in the deck, you not only need to think whether it fits in there, but also whether you need it or not.

Yes, Zola would fit into the deck. But you just don’t need her. She doesn’t help vs Aggro at all, and slow matchups in which she’s amazing after you turn into Valeera are already in your favor.

But you can obviously try her out yourself!

Looks like it! Since he isn’t one of the class Loas, then he has to be Neutral. Which is cool, I really hoped that we’ll see him as a card eventually.

Kingsbane Rogue Deck List Guide - Rastakhan - December 2018

Zilliax, I agree that you can replace it without hurting your win rate. A single Doomerang – maybe, if you have one that might be enough (two are obviously better, but hey).

But I think that the deck becomes really bad without Valeera. Of course, it’s still okay if you want to play around casually, but now you’re losing a huge win condition in slower matchups. Not only you buff your weapon slower, cycle through your deck slower, but you also can’t go infinite (which e.g. can make beating Odd Warrior harder, since you hit fatigue way, way sooner than they do and it can really stack).

Edit:

I’m stupid, of course you can go infinite without Valeera (with Rogue’s regular Hero Power). She’s still amazing at cycling faster, getting more tempo, more removals, more weapon buffs etc.

Even Paladin Deck List Guide - Rastakhan's Rumble - March 2019

Good explanation, those are the cards I would replace for Val’anyr too 🙂

And yeah, if you’re running Val’anyr, adding Saronite Chain Gang is a good idea. Those two have great synergy!

Heavy Metal!

Yes and no. Gather your Party is better if you build your deck around it. You don’t have to build your deck around this card (except Armor gain, of course, but that’s something you want to put into Control Warrior decks anyway).

Running any 1-5 mana minions sucks when using Gather Your Party, and you can run them with this.

Interview With Hearthstone Game Designers Liv Breeden & Peter Whalen at BlizzCon - Discussing Rastakhan's Rumble!

That’s true. Just like every fantasy RPG has copied from D&D, for example 🙂 The truth is that at this point most of the tropes have already been explored. We’re living in a world where being truly innovative is either incredibly hard or even impossible in some cases.
