Mulligans
(Intro and credentials) Welcome to my first deck post! With absolutely no experience and not much dust for crafting, this deck can get you far if played correctly, as of this post im currently 105 legend and climbing on North America server. I only started with a few hundred wins on hunter and within a day of playing I made it from rank 4-legend within a few hours, although ive been legend before, this deck seems very effective in the current meta and ill explain a few key things you might want to start keeping track of when playing this deck. You can watch me play here @ https://www.twitch.tv/xxkingxcarnagexx or check out my youtube channel which is slightly new, but I plan on posting better quality videos in the future @ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuu6w95fQSnSOncHOTdDhLQ/featured?view_as=subscriber
(The Basics) So first off, you probably copied the deck code by now and are ready to jump in to playing on ladder, well heres a few things I have experienced in matchups, and ideas I think that will help you make optimal muligan decisions as these can make or break a game.
Matchups vs relevant meta decks
Vs Combo Priest. (Muligan for removal) Keeping all removal tools such as deadly shot, desert spear, pressure plate, and kill command are very good for slowing down the priest early, if you can manage to live up to the point where a Dire Frenzy connects you’ll be in decent shape
Vs Quest Druid. (Muligan for value and a heavy Zuljin) This can be a tough one, but keeping Zuljin, pressure plate, masters call and dire frenzy seem optimal, if you feel like you want to go for an aggressive start, consider keeping unleash the beast for when the oasis surgers come down.
Vs Control Warrior. (Muligan for value via masters call, dire frenzy and shimmerfly) If the warrior is out pressuring you and your life total is too low, just direfrenzy viscous scalehide, but try to avoid this because direfrenzy should be connecting with huffer, tundra rhino, or timber wolfs. Maxing out your zuljin with both direfrenzies and masters call is best due to the fact you can otk your opponent the following turn while they remove everything zuljin put on board the previous turn.
Vs Aggro Warrior. (Muligan for Sustain) Always keep vicious scalehide if a dire frenzy is also attached to your muligan. Hyena + unleash + timberwolf can swing back board after playing masters call, following up on turn 5 if you have coin, Dire frenzy should always connect on Scalehide due to its rush mechanic and lifesteal. *can wins games easily if you get enough of these *
Vs Holy Wrath Paladin. (Muligan for damage) If you can secure a huffer on board turn 3, and connect dire frenzy the turn after it usually ends fast, hyena is also a good dire frenzy target because of desert spears honestly, consistent board swing tools.
Vs Quest Shaman. (Muligan for Desert spear, springpaw, unleash the hounds, and hyena) These are the best things to look for vs shaman early especially, desert spear is really mvp in this matchup, depending on your life total, direfrenzy on scalehide can be quite effective, unleash the hounds and hyena are the ultimate punish for shamans wide boards.
Vs Zoo Warlock. (Muligan for unleash the hounds, hyena springpaw and desert spear, similar to shaman you want to contain board and have heavy swings, dire frenzy and viscous salehide if paired are also a potential keep, but can be too slow.
Vs. Aggro rogue. (Muligan for Sustain and board swing tools) such as unleash animal companion or masters call, both seem decent, not many aggro rogues on ladder but scalehide and direfrenzy are always a must keep if paired together.
(General playstyle) This deck can be aggro or control based on your dire frenzy targets but in general value trading can cost you alot if you dont have a hyena on board. The 1,2,3 curve is good if your just starting out playing this deck keeping shimmerfly and or sppringpaw for a turn 1, hyena on turn 2 if opponent plays quest, or something that wont kill your hyena on board, into animal companion. Unleash the hounds with hyena and timber wolf will punish large boards so keep that in mind when guessing which type of archetype your opponent is. Unleash the hounds can also go face, if your in a face race, assuming your opponent doesn’t have aoe removal, sometimes timber wolf unleash swing for 10 is just the play on curve. Although there’s many things to say about this deck, you can always post a comment and ask me a specific question if all your questions weren’t answered here.
