Mage
Introduction to my Elemental Mage Deck
After playing ranked play (usually rank 12 to 10) for sometime with my Baku the Mooneater Paladin and Shudderwock Shaman, I actually got bored with the Meta. Playing with only two classes is quite dull, especially when I felt, that Shudderwock Shaman was sometimes unreliable. I kept on meeting Paladins, Druids and Warlocks (which I still do), but I had no variation in my matchups – and that was boring. So I decided to try something different from the current meta to have fun and challenging myself. I didn’t want to use huge amount of dust, and since I had Frost Lich Jaina from the Solo Adventure and opened Aluneth in a pack, I wanted to try out Mage. And with many strong elementals, particularly for Mage, I wanted to give it a try.
It turned out pretty well, and I have now reached rank 5 (not the best, but a record for me). So if you have some of these cards, I would recommend you to try it.
Elemental Mage Mulligan Guide
HIGH PRIORITY KEEPS
Fire Fly – The best opener in the deck, especially if you’re starting, and a 1-mana 1/2 Elemental extra in hand.
Glacial Shard – Very good if you aren’t starting, and you freeze your opponent’s 1-mana drop. Can be used to start with though.
Acidic Swamp Ooze – Keep, if you meet Mage, Warlock or Warrior. Destroying Aluneth ASAP is important, and destroying Skull of the Man'ari after Warlock plays it is savage as f***.
Keeping it with Hunter, Rogue, Paladin etc. is great anyways. It is optional to wait, if they play a weapon. Else, play it as a usual minion on T2.
Plated Beetle – Solid T2 minion with an extra 3 shield is nice to have.
Pyros – Must play on T2. With the extra elementals in your hand (Pyros 6/6 on T6 into Blazecaller on T7…) and 10-mana 10/10 can be used later on.
Lower Priority (Keep only under these conditions)
Tar Creeper – Keep, if you have something else to drop on T1 or T2 else swap it. Must keep against aggro (e.g. Face Hunter or Rogue).
Voodoo Doll – Keep, if you meet Warlock and have something to play on either T1 or T2. Should be used against a big threat removal (e.g. an early mountain giant)
