Mulligans

General Mulligans

In any matchup, you're trying to find either of these two cards to apply pressure as soon as possible.

Aggro Mulligans

Against aggro the giants can wait. You want to live until your opponent temporarily runs out of steam. This is really important. You need to find that window when you are now the aggresor, too soon and you might lose the match. Cards are pretty self explanatory: defile and hellfire for clears (your giants usually survive this while wiping the opposing board) plated beetles and homunculus to stall, and shroom for heals. Lesser amethyst stone could save you, but its usually a bad card against uber-aggresive decks that plan to go wide with small minions (you dont want to go very low on health, and 7 dmg for 2 health minion is kind of a waste). Drain soul could be better in those scenarios.

Control Mulligans

Against control, only one thing is important: tempo and pressure (well two). In these matchups, it is completely fine to play reaver as a simple 4 mana 4/4. You need the board filled at all times, the pressure is optimal. Once you get to the late game the matchup favors them, they outvalue you by a ten-fold, so keep that in mind.

The deck is an even Handlock with a few inclusions to deal with the aggressive meta (Odd paladin, even shaman, token druid, and even spiteful druid). Mossy Horror is a great clear board clear against paladins. In most of my games I survive the early game with defile and hellfire, and when my opponent over-extends not expecting another clear mossy horror is often a game breaker. Curse of weakness goes with that idea, letting you get good trades at the beginning and potentially removing any enemy with 6 atk or less when used with mossy horror. However, the deck is not a control deck. These choices are mere ‘tech’ inclusions to have more survivability against the wide, small boards that many decks now have. Due to the nerf to spiteful bringing to no later than turn seven gives you more time to develop the board with giants and reavers making him unable to play spiteful unless he wants 8+ dmg to face. The only decks I’ve had trouble against is cubelock, mainly the heals and early voidlords. Now that both of those instances have been nerfed I feel the match-up has become more favorable. This is by no means a perfect list (still in development) but it has performed exceptionally well.
