Mulligans

As priest main, but hater of majority of current priest play styles (not a fan of OTK) I experiment for quite a bit every expension. Recently I managed to come up with an interesting, more midrange oriented and surprisingly good take on the spell priest archetype. So far, I have gone 11 and 5 in 16 games (68,75%) I played in last 2 days in ranks 5 to legend. Take into account that high percentage might be mainly due to huge surprise factor.

General playstyle

Rastakhan expension provided priest with a lot of interesting cards supporting spell oriented archetypes. I am mainly speaking of grave horror, seanse and banana buffoon. The goal of the deck is to use cheap spells to reduce the cost of grave horrors, generate value with Lyra or start infinite Zerek chain (preferably copying it with PW: replicate the following turn). Spirit of the dead and bwonsamdi are there to get additional copies of aforementioned cards in the deck.

Sometimes an unanswered early cleric or radiant elemental buffed with bananas and extra arms can quickly snowball as well. Keep in mind that since spirit of the dead has stealth, it can often be used as a set up for buffs in following turn.

Against more aggresive decks, your best friends are mass hysteria and auchenai phantasm-circle of healing combo.

Card replacements

There are quite some cards worth of consideration, however based on some testing, I decided to cut them and keep the current deck. Those cards are:

  • wild pyromancer: fits perfectly in the deck with so many cheap spells and combos well with northshire cleric and circle of healing as a draw engine
  • acolyte of pain: additional card draw, altough northsire cleric is usually more than enough
  • dragon soul: tried it out, but it felt a bit clunky
  • auchenai soulpriest: less dust but also less mana efficient than auchenai phantasm
  • vivid nightmare: a cheaper version of PW: replicate (I would argue it might be even better with Zerek and grave horror due to some cheap healing spells in the deck), however usually much worse with anything else (Lyra, spirit, radiant elemental)
  • psychic scream: insane priest board clear which might be a good inclusion if meta is full of deathrattles
  • mass dispel: I prefer silence, since it is cheaper and usually one target is enough in current meta
  • questing adventurer: alternative win condition that can easily snowball with the number of few cheap spells
