So after seeing some of the new cards spoiled for the set, I couldn’t help but see the potential Quest Hunter has to be a real powerhouse of the meta. This version is trying to rush the combo as fast as possible, and utilises cards like Fire Fly and Raptor Hatchling to provide additional one-drops into the deck. We also get access to card draw in Tol’vir Warden and value with Igneous Elemental and late-game Deathstalker Rexxar.
This version is really combo oriented, greedy in other words, so it tries to do some dumb things like perhaps using Dire Frenzy to hit a Carnassa. That’ll surely start the grind fest, as it will put 3 11/11 5-drops in your deck to continue to add 15 grindy 3/2’s each time they are played (potentially 60+ raptors a game). There is a lot of combo potential with Dire Frenzy, like hitting a valuable Zombeast that could assist you in the late game, and with all those brood members you’ll draw it in no time.
By adding cards like Tundra Rhino and Houndmaster Shaw, you give yourself the ability to cycle your raptors into their board and keep filtering your draws, as well as go face for huge damage swings.
As for cubelock, the bane of the meta, that’s where Toxmonger comes in. By having the 1-drops that you play gain poisonous , you have easy ways to clear huge Voidlords, and Elven Archer gives you a way to kill two birds with one stone, by using the 1 damage affect to kill something, and then potentially rushing it into another thing if you have Shaw out. Not to mention Toxmonger gives them poisonous permanently, so even if you only hit like 2 1-drops with it and it dies, its still substantial value.
Unleash the hounds gives us a quick answer to aggressive paladin decks and Eaglehorn Bow helps us fight against midrange lists or go face in a control matchup. This deck has other grind elements like Stitched tracker to grab anything you need at the moment. Late game you can grab your Dire Frenzied card copies, or a Tundra Rhino to close out the game.
All in all I believe this list has a very strong matchup in both aggressive and control metas, and has the tools to be a real threat amongst the Tier 1 and 2 decks. Who knows, maybe our meta might become a little more interesting.
