Mulligans

Since the Faceless Manipulator and Jungle Giants interaction was changed, the Malygos version of the quest has become much less viable on the ladder. In fact, it’s not even viable in a tournament lineup, which always seemed to be its niche.

My hypothesis is that an OTK deck based on the Quest needs more redundancy and additional minions to help complete it. This version is mainly inspired by the list GhostASA took to HCT Sydney last year, updated for the Year of the Raven and with more defensive tools.

While this is similar to other versions that use Cubes and Deathwing to pop them, I’ve also added Leeroy Jenkins and Reckless Rocketeers. The main weakness of the Devilsaur version of Quest Druid is, well, it’s much easier to draw your necessary combo pieces before the quest is completed. With other charge minions, not only do we have additional ways of completing the quest, but we also have additional targets for the Cube to deliver the OTK.

This list is super unrefined right now, and it may turn out that the idea is just inferior to the non-quest Devilsaur combo with Witching Hour. Possible substitutions and things to consider are:

Naturalize: Early Mountain Giants are really rough for us to deal with, and they provide additional ways to pop the Cubes if Deathwing is unavailable.

Harrison Jones or Corrosive Sludge I’m not sure if Twig Druids or Cubelocks are actually threatening enough to warrant weapon tech. Should they become necessary, one or the other would replace a Reckless Rocketeer.

Spreading Plague Two of them might be ideal.

Witching Hour I understand that this makes it much closer to the regular Devilsaur Druid decks without the Quest. However, I’m intrigued by the additional redundancy and the types of shenanigans that could be done. However, it may end up being too slow, and is a super dead card in the early game.

Wrath and Ferocious Howl Additional survival tools are important.

Overall, I’d consider the second Reckless Rocketeer to be the biggest flex spot. Heck, having both Charged Devilsaurs and Leeroy Jenkins might be enough. Stay tuned for updates!

I’ve been mucking about with Quest Druid for a while; not this build and not with a spectacular win rate (but it is fun) – a couple of things I’ve noticed:

2x Fatespinner is often clunky – one for board clear is good but dropping the second one after completing the quest is kinda risky. I took one out for a Tomb Lurker (weirdly) and it works quite well as it’s a 5 attack minion in its own right and can (potentially) gift you another Cursed Disciple.

I actually dropped Jasper Spellstones for Naturalize at the moment – just because of Odd Warlock. You can generally punish them for that early Mountain Giant by overfilling their hand… bonus points if you put King Mukla in the deck as well to ensure Naturalize burns two of their cards. Mukla also works with Oaken Summons and the Quest as he’s a 3-cost 5/5.

… and no, you don’t want 2x Spreading Plague. There aren’t *that* many decks that totally flood the board at the moment and against anything else it’s a really expensive 1/5 that you have to drop to prevent yourself overfilling your own hand when you’re holding most of your combo pieces.

Just my tuppence worth – but bear in mind I play a lot more casual or wild than standard ladder.
