Mulligans
Aggro Mulligans
Against aggro your goal is surviving until Rexxar, if you can get a spellstone with at least 1 trap then good, if not then don't worry. Remember Masked contender doesn't trigger the "Play" requirement.
Midrange Mulligans
Try and force awkward and try to stay on curve.
Combo Mulligans
Be as aggressive as you can, aim for a greater spellstone on 5 into highmane 6.
Control Mulligans
This will be a game of resource management, don't spend your mana so quickly.
My version of Big Beast Hunter is slightly different than the normal variation which focuses on controlling the early threats by means of Candleshot and Hunters Mark. By Forsaking these cheap removal options for more threatening secret package you can maintain early tempo against some more aggressive decks. There’s obvious weaknesses with playing without this removal such as druids cheating out large taunt minions or wide boards that can’t be contested with Unleash the Hounds. Overall the tempo bonus allows you to shut down aggressive boards by forcing them to make bad trades into Emerald Spellstone or Savannah Highmane.
The main problem with the deck is if you fall behind the only catch up mechanism you have is Ziliax so you need to be aware of what you’re facing and mulligun for the appropriate hand.
So what’s appropriate? What are you looking for? If you think you’re in an aggressive match-up where you’re on a timer you want to look for secrets or anything related to them as Hunter secrets can help to delay the game. Deathstalker Rexxar is one of the saviours against aggressive decks as if you can survive the early damage he gives you access to a small boost in health and a large pool of lifesteal beasts to stabilize. Against the slower decks you want to look out for Stitched Tracker or Eaglehorn Bow as both of these cards give you some kind of tempo advantage and combo well into other later parts of the deck.
