Jonnychill’s Big Spell Mage (Theorycraft)

Mulligans

This deck is aimed at taking advantage of the new Kobold and Catacombs cards that care about having big spells in your deck. I am still in the early stages of refining the list and appreciate any feedback! I will continue to update as the expansion approaches,

CARD CHOICES

Arcane Artificer – Can be used as an early game minion but also shines in the late game when you can couple it with large AOE spells for some extra healing, easy to combo with these spells because it only costs 1 mana.

Arcanologist – Basically mages best 2 drop minion, also helps you pull your cheapest spell out of the deck making your other cards stronger

Raven Familiar – Helps you draw your big AOE and gives you an early game body

Dragon's Fury – Basically a stronger, cheaper Flamestrike most of the time in this deck

Enjoyful deck. Won agaisnt control mage who had 9 turn dk while i had it LAST card… Somehow i had enough resources to clear his elementals and Barron geddon healed me +8 hp which made him die from fatique earlier than me. The only problem is that i often didnt have cards to play on 3rd-5th turns especially vs control decks. By the way i met 2 strange hunters with new secrets and some creatures with charge. Wtf are they? So weak.

As there are still many jades (1/8 i suppose),I recommend swapping arcane tyrant with skulking geist. This card is super helpful against jade druid making him a good matchup for us. It also helps a lot vs odk priests(innerfire),shaman(evolution). Medivh could actually fit instead of second tyrant. The good thing is that we can clear/freeze enemy creatures(dragons fury/blizzard/meteor) and place doomsayer to safely play medivh/dk next turn. And i really consider swapping arcanologist with that 2/3 green guy for 2 mana that destroys enemy weapon,as there are lots of new powerful weapons and new hunter build with infinite eaglehorn bow.

I feel like, even without cheap spells, mana wyrm could help with the early game struggle. You can’t include Volcanic potion and you kinda wanna try not to lose half your life total until you can play your boardclear. Definitely try to include Medivh. Very interesting deck, I’ll try it <3tomorrooowwww<3

Depending on how it will interact with the spell jousting, i would include shifting scroll.
If it never gets drawn from Raven/Summoner/Fury then i would definitely try it out, but as we now nothing about interactions with a card without defined mana cost its difficult.

Plus Medivh would fit the deck perfectly because there are only high cost spells included.

Yeah I really want to add medivh but it depends how much weapon hate people start running after this expansion, I was thinking of trying medivh plus a rummaging cobald to get atiesh back for more value
