You can’t play a fire elemental in World of Warcraft, and yet Ragnaros as a story-related character exists in Hearthstone, right? Hearthstone’s character development has never been tied to World of Warcraft’s character creation (and its boundaries).

Representation is important – in real life and games alike! I don’t think Team 5 owes us an explanation as of why certain characters are of a certain gender, just like you don’t need to explain to me if and why you are male, female, or something in- or out-between (spoiler: there would be no explanation anyway, right?).

Varden Dawngrasp is confirmed to be a non-binary character, hence the selection of pronouns.

Personal note: While I don’t really like Rokara’s questline, I absolutely LOVE that they brought in the Juggernaut, a nod to Warcraft III’s orc naval unit. So much flavour! 🙂

I’m hyped for a possible Alterac expansion, but let me tell you, I AM HYPED FOR SOME ASHENVALE action. It’s just such a diverse zone, and BFD may be my favorite leveling dungeon.

Besides that, Naga have always played an important role in Hearthstone and even more in WoW, so seeing them as a possible minion type in Battlegrounds could be another dealmaker in that case 🙂

Fully agreed! Something I thought a lot about as well was Gnomeregan. Dun Morogh is covered in snow as well, and you could tailor an interesting Alliance vs Horde storyline around it.

For me personally, ancients, treants, and any other tree- or plant-like creatures belong to the greater Elemental family.

As you might imagine if you know the Lord of the Rings books, this fantasy directly derives from Tolkien’s “ents”. However, those creatures, at least from my perspective, have been a sentient race of beings ever since, while ancients and treants are more simple entities that can be created or, in some sense, “activated” through beings like druids or night elves.

What’s always been an interesting detail to me were the pendants/necklaces they’re wearing. I don’t think other elementals in Warcraft lore do that, and I want to believe that these “charms” transfer the will of their owners into the otherwise lifeless trees. I’ve never read anything in official lore about those necklaces, so that’s my theory, anway 🙂

Storytelling in Hearthstone is walking on the edge of playability and conveying multi-layered information. Both of us would love to see more story detail in the game, but the vast majority of gamers just want to play their games, and that’s totally fine!
