Mulligans
General Mulligans
Shaku and Shadow Sensei are the perfect on-curve plays for this deck, allowing a massive powerspike on turn 4. The lack of early drops may be compensated by countering the enemy with Backstab, though obviously early plays like Swash, Clockwork and Huckster are great. Hallucination does well enough, if other options fail, and Xaril is the backup plan for a turn 4, if the Shaku-Sensei combo isn't drawn by then.
Aggro Mulligans
The Shaku-Sensei combo becomes slightly slow when paired up against aggro, and as such, pure value cards and early drops fare better in the match-up, though generally it is a weak one. Try to trade well using Spare Parts and Xaril potions.
Backstab, however, is a number one code-alpha priority, almost a must-have card to secure a decent early game.
Midrange Mulligans
Midrange will be fairly similar to aggro in terms of the tools you're trying to use: Backstab and good trades using Xaril potions and Spare Parts. That defines the cards you'll be looking for.
Combo Mulligans
Since combo decks put you on a timer, drawing valuable cards and mini-comboes will be of great use. Your goal in this matchup is to outvalue your opponent so much the limited control tools they'll have will not be enough to deal with your presence.
Control Mulligans
In a control matchup, you'll be focusing on getting early value to maintain the board and potentially sneak some damage in. Thus, value cards like returns and burgles will become more important.
The deck's lack of removal means burgle is crucial to getting rid of the enemy's threats. Try to get as many burgles in as possible.
Synergies:
- Miracle package – Backstab, Shadowstep, Hallucination, Gang Up, burgled spells, Spare Parts
- Battlecry gang (Brann value) – Swash, Shadow Sensei, Xaril, Toshley, Peddler, Shadowcaster
- Deathrattle gang (Umbra value, can be replaced with N’Zoth or Rivendare but Umbra is better IMO) – Clockwork Gnome, Undercity Huckster, Xaril, Toshley
- Burgle, obviously, the main deck engine – Hallucination, Swash, Undercity, Burgle, Shaku
Crucial on curve play: turn 3 Shaku into turn 4 Shadow Sensei, gains extreme value.
In spare parts and Xaril potions, stealth and return effects are most useful.
Now the deck lacks removal severely, and as such hopes to burgle it and use Spare Parts to get efficient trades. As such, it is crucial to maintain a board with this deck.
