Mulligans
General Mulligans
Almost always you want to hard mulligan to get those cards. Focusing on N'Zoth's First mate and Finley.
Keep Southsea Deckand if you have coin and N'Zoth's First mate, thats 3 damage on turn one, one weapon and 2 minions.
Keep Bloodsail Rider Only if you have a weapon, even the Rusty Hook will get you some value and playing that on curve is always good.
Keep Dread Corsair ONLY if you get a weapon like Fiery War Axe or King's Defender. A risky play is keeping it if you have N'Zoth's First mate and an Upgrade (works best with a coin to play the Corsair on turn 2 and a Bloodsail Cultist in turn 3).
Never keep 2 Fiery War Axe or a King's Defender and an Axe, keeping King's Defender can be risky, only do so if you have a Dread Corsair. Never keep 2 N'Zoth's First Mate.
Aggro Mulligans
Follow the mulligan rules in the general tab, versus aggro always try to hard mulligan for a N'Zoth's First Mate, keep Inner Rage if you get it and also keep Cruel Taskmaster.
A small weapon and some ping is always great against aggro.
Fiery War Axe is great too.
Midrange Mulligans
Follow the same rules in the general tab, Heroic Strike and Dread Corsair are pretty good options to keep. Remember that you need a weapon to keep Dread Corsair.
Control Mulligans
Again, follow the rules on general tab, but if you are sure you're going against a Control Deck you can keep some greedy cards to make some combos.
Heroic strike can be good against some Taunts, Execute too, that's the reason I play one in this deck.
You can keep just one of the following: Bloodsail Cultist, Kor'kron Elite and Arcanite Reaper. If you have an Arcanite reaper and an Upgrade, keep both for 18 damage.
Warrior
Warrior
Introduction
Pirate Warrior was on my mind since N'Zoth's First Mate was revealead as a new Warrior card in this expansion, and when I saw Bloodsail Cultist, I just said: Ahoy, me hearties!
This deck is kinda easy to play, it isn’t expensive and a lot of cards are easy to get or from basic and classic sets.
I’m at 82% Win rate right now (With this version of the deck, and 71% global win rate including the previous versions).
This is my first submited deck and my first guide overall. I’ll just try to do my best.
–Also, English isn’t my mother language, so, sorry for any misspelled word or anything strange–
This isn’t the final version of this deck, I feel that some changes could be made and that it still needs refinement, but so far, I’ve got awesome results using it since the last time I made some changes.
Today, I’m right now at rank 5, I climbed from rank 13 or something like that just using this deck.
How it works
This deck is meant to win fast, but it has potential to get to late turns and still win with very strong hits. The main source of damage will be your weapons, your target almost always is going to be the face of the enemy unless you have a very valuable minion on th board and you need to keep it alive (A buffed Bloodsail Raider or maybe a Kor’kron Elite). Aside from that… well, face is the place. This deck uses high damage attacks to win, weapons are the protagonists here and the combos can be pretty deadly.
Some combos
Any weapon + Upgrade! , even upgrading a Rusty Hook will get you some value, a 2/4 weapon is awesome against aggro.
Turn 2 with coin: Fiery War Axe + Coin + Upgrade! and on turn 3 play Dread Corsair for free and a Bloodsail Cultist for a 5/3 weapon.
Turn 1 with Coin Against anything but Mage/Druid/Rogue: N'Zoth's First Mate + Coin + Southsea Deckhand . 3 damage, 2 minions and a weapon on turn 1.
Leeroy Jenkins or Kor'kron Elite plus Inner Rage / Cruel Taskmaster : If you’re not against aggro and if the enemy doesn’t have any taunt (To ping + Execute) you can buff up your charge minions for a big damage turn.
Blackwater Pirate in turn 4 into a turn 5 weapon like Arcanite Reaper for 3 mana.
Notes
Always try to save Mortal Strike to use it as a finisher when low on Hp to deal 6 damage, kill a big taunt and then go face with charge minions and your weapons or even kill a Water Elemental .
Save Heroic Strike as a finisher, sometimes a 9 damage Rusty Hook gets the enemy off guard. Use it early to remove taunts or use it and go face if you have lethal next turn and you don’t have enough mana to use it in the next turn along with a finisher.
One Execute works just fine, you have two 1/1 minions, and 2 cards to use as pings to execute a tank or a very big threat. Two copies of Execute hasn’t worked for me, sometimes you have those two sitting in your hand doing nothing.
Sir Finley Mrrgglton
Best options:
Warlock Hero Power against Control and Midrange.
Hunter Hero Power against Control and Midrange.
Mage Hero Power against Aggro.
Druid Hero Power against Aggro and Midrange.
Sometimes useful options: Shaman and Paladin Hero Power.
Never: Priest and Rogue. (Rogue can be useful, but, it is very very VERY situational, like: you need 2 damage and you just have Finley and an Upgrade in hand).
–Warlock’s is the best unless you’re against aggro, second is Hunter’s and third is Druid’s and Mage’s.
Explanations for each card
- Inner Rage serves as a ping and to add damage to a charge minion or any minion that you have on board. Good against aggro.
- Execute, like I said, having only one copy feels just right, just ping a taunt ot a big threat and execute it. Having two copies isn’t necessary. Most of the time you will have them sitting in your hand as dead cards.
- Upgrade! is one of the best cards in this deck, this will make your Fiery War Axe a 4/3 weapon and your Arcanite Reaper a 6/3 weapon. Also, buffing a Rusty Hook is very good against aggro decks.
- N'Zoth's First Mate, Always try to get one in your starting hand. This is like Muster for Battle but for Warriors, and it just costs one mana. Go face at turn one, enable your Southsea Deckhand to attack, upgrade it, ping a minion to execute it or just destroy a minion that your oponent played on turn 1.
- Sir Finley Mrrgglton. You can’t attack the enemy’s face with armor, so just get a better Hero Power. It also gets you a nice start for one mana, you can buff his attack with Inner Rage and Cruel Taskmaster or use it for trading.
- Southsea Deckhand is great, but no soooo great. It might get you a good trade or maybe it will give you 2 to 4 damage to the enemy’s face. Having one feels right, topdecking two of those in the late game is awful and you can get a better card for that slot.
- Fiery War Axe Go face, trade, upgrade it, make a Dread Corsair almost free…. this card is a must in almost every Warrior deck.
- Battle Rage, well…. I’m not sooo sure about this card. This deck feels like it needs some card draw, but most of the time you’re just going to draw 1 card using this, but it’s effect is instant and it is a cheap card. Flexible slot.
- Heroic Strike Do you always wanted to hit the enemy’s face with a 12 attack Rusty Hook? Well, now you can. Use it to destroy taunts or as a finisher for tons of damage.
- Bloodsail Raider buffing this minions is easy with this deck and even buffing it for just one more extra attack is great, 2 mana for a 3/3? Yes please. And you can play this on curve if you have a N'Zoth's First Mate on the board. Sadly, keeping alive a 5/3 minion for more than a turn isn’t easy, but getting one or two attacks from a buffed Bloodsail Rider almost ensures a win everytime.
- Cruel Taskmaster I used to play two of those, but having one feels right. I preffer to have one Inner Rage so I can buff my charge minions on curve or for a low mana cost for fast wins. If you preffer, play two Cruel Taskmasters instead of just one. Flexible slot.
- King's Defender This is the cherry in the cake. I was thinking that having just 4 weapons wasn’t enough fot this deck, so I tried adding one copy of King’s Defender, and it is great! That extra weapon makes a lot of difference, and if you manage to get that extra point of durability with its Battlecry, perfect! Remember that weapons are the soul of this deck.
- Bloodsail Cultist 3 mana for a 3/4 minion with an awesome synergy with the other pirates and your weapons? GREAT CARD. Even if you need to play it just for the 3/4 body you can get some good trades. It is like an Upgrade! inside a value minion. A must have.
- Mortal Strike Oh God…. This card is plain awesome! I’ve won a lot of games just because of this, this punishes the enemy for damaging you and rewards you for playing aggresive. 12 damage for 8 mana is great as a finisher along with a weapon swing. It also can be used as a Taunt/Threat removal.
- Blackwater Pirate Nice stats for 4 mana and a great effect. It can make a Fiery War Axe free or an Arcanite Reaper just a 3 mana weapon. It isn’t easy to destroy for the oponent if you play it on curve, as it has 5 hp and you can always abuse that high hp to get value from Battle Rage and Cruel Taskmaster or Inner Rage. Anyway, I feels like this is a flexible slot.
- Dread Corsair Let’s be honest, you’re almost always going to play this for 2 or 1 mana, or even for free. It is a 3/3 minion with taunt, it is a must have in a weapon heavy deck and it is also a pirate! Adds 3 more damage to your face race.
- Kor'kron Elite is one of the best charge minions in the game. Great stats for 4 mana and it helps you to burst your oponent on late turns. It can be buffed easily too! It also helps you to clear some taunts so you can use your 6 attack arcanite reaper to close the game.
- Arcanite Reaper Sadly Death's Bite is out of standar, but we don’t really get that much value from the Deathrattle it had, so a 5/2 weapon that can be upgraded easily with this deck is beautiful! Save that Upgrade! in your hand to buff this beauty.
- Leeroy Jenkins Ohhh Leeroy! This card is great, it enables you to burst an enemy from 15 Hp to 0 in a turn with the right cards and a good weapon, if you have it, use it! If not… craft it! Just kidding, it is the best Charge Finisher in the game right now but it isn’t a must have since it is a legendary. I love using it.
Hey! Why didn’t you use….? And some other options
- Blood To Ichor Some people like using this card in a pirate aggro deck, but I feels like it is just too slow, some of your early minions has just one hp, so you can’t use it there and doing one damage to an enemy sometimes isn’t enough. I preffer to use Inner Rage or Cruel Taskmaster because, yes, they also do just ONE damage, but you can buff your own minions for instant 2 more damage. The slime has to wait and survive one turn to be able to attack. Still, it is viable, try it if you want.
- Cursed Blade too risky. Too many aggro decks roaming the ladder.
- Bolster Not enough taunt minions.
- Rampage I used to use one copy of it, but most of the time it was just a dead card in my hand. Try it if you like it.
- Fierce Monkey I don’t use it, but I have considered it, it has synergy with King’s defender and the stats are great. I might try it later. 3 mana minions like this can help you to smooth the curve.
- Frothing Berserker Just as the Moneky, I don’t use it but it might work. With more whirlwind like effects it might be useful. Try it if you want. 3 mana minions like this can help you to smooth the curve.
- Orgrimmar Aspirant Too slow.
- Arathi Weaponsmith I feel like it is too slow and that you have much better weapons and 4 mana slots. But, I’m considering replacing my Blackwater Pirate for one Weaponsmith, just maybe.
- Gorehowl Too expensive, it could be AWESOME if you can manage to play a Blackwater Pirate on turn 4 and Gorehowl on turn 5! And then Upgrade it for Value! Risky Card, but I might try it.
- Abusive Sergeant is for token decks, this is a weapons deck.
- Flame Juggler can be useful if you face too many aggro decks, but I already have too many 2 drops.
- Huge Toad, same as above, but It could help if you need extra minions and maybe a lucky ping.
- Loot Hoarder well… it isn’t a bad choice, maybe you can get two damage from it and a card draw. You can use this instead of one or two copies of Battle Rage.
- Acolyte of Pain When I was looking for extra card draw, I tried using one or two of those, I just felt that they are too slow to be realiable, and most of the times you’re just going to get one draw from them if you don’t play Whirlwind like effects or have more cards to ping. If you dont like Battle Rage feel free to try an Acolyte or two.
- Raging Worgen can maybe be used as an extra win condition with Rampage and Charge but not in this deck.
- Southsea Captain again, this is a weapons decks and getting value from this card isn’t guaranteed.
- Spiteful Smith I might try using this card, awesome synergy for weapons but not so reliable.
- Reckless Rocketeer Use this card if you don’t have Leeroy Jenkins , it can help you close games.
- Doomsayer Use it right before wining with a swing from your weapon for maximum BM. Don’t forget to say ”Heh, greetings” after playing it. #GarroshMasterRace
LEGENDARIES
Special mention: Captain Greenskin Ohh I would love to play this card in my deck, but, sadly I don’t have it and I don’t feel like I reeeeeally need it. But, oh God, it is great! Use it if you have it! Awesome synergy!
The Black Knight The best taunt killer in the game. If you have it, add it, don’t craft it just for this deck, tho. Great in a lot of decks in this meta for those big ass taunts.
Grommash Hellscream Too expensive and you have better combos to do 10-12 damage. It can be a good finisher, I haven’t tried it.
Special mention: Skycap'n Kragg This might work, it is an extra charge minion with good stats! And it has synergy with pirates. Like I said before, use it if you have it, but don’t feel obligated to craft it.
Special mention: Malkorok I reeeeally want to use this card in this deck! Sadly, I don’t have it haha, it looks like fun and Value to me. Most of the time you will get something useful and you can always upgrade that weapon or make use of some of your synergies.
