Quest Mage is a problem? here is the solution!

The Storm

This deck utilizes the Wrath of Air Totem that can be summoned every turn with Totemic Slam to burst the opponent with a lot of damaging spells, or make your Arcane Watchers attack. With a lot of totem and overload synergy, this is the new cutting edge tech deck for the meta.

Go Wide!

In the early game, your game plan is to establish a wide board with totems (mostly Wrath of Air Totem but Healing Totem is also useful) and other minions and tokens, which you can buff with Storm's Wrath to deal a high amount of damage to your opponent. A big surprise for me was Totemic Reflection, which is off-the-charts powerful; playing it on a Mana Tide Totem or an already buffed totem can win you the game by itself. Don’t forget the overload synergy and the early game board dominance you get from Tunnel Trogg and Surging Tempest.

Face is the place

Once you have established your board, you can go face. You forget about enemy minions, and start bursting your opponent. With 8 damaging spells, a board full of totems and a lot more burst potential in the deck, taking the opponent down from 20 to 0 should be an easy task. Sometimes you will want to play Feral Spirit just to protect you little 0/2 totems and continue bursting the next turn.

Meta Choices

Lightning Storm looks a little weird in this deck, because it neither floods the board nor bursts the opponent’s face, but I think it is one of the better cards in the deck. This card not only improves your chances against pirate warrior and other more aggressive decks, but also acts as a super Flamestrike that can wipe the enemy board and clear taunts from more mid-range builds (like reno priest).

I consider Leeroy Jenkins as a tech card, because it doesn’t really fit the whole “overload-spell damage-totem-token” theme of the deck, but I find that the little extra burst you get from it can change games. I considered running Loatheb as a tech choice, but the extra burst felt more important.

Master of Ceremonies is not in this deck because most of the time on turn 3 you are still building a board, and it would still be a 4/2. Arcane Watcher on the other hand is a thread by itself and will be removed even if you don’t have a Wrath of Air Totem on the board.

Mulligan Guide

Your 1-drops are the most important part of the mulligan and try to hard-mulligan for them.

Mana Tide Totem and Totemic Reflection can also be kept together if you have The Coin because of the massive swing that comes on turn 3.

General Tips

  • Manage your overload. Think about what you want to play for next turn and play your cards accordingly
  • Realize your burst. This deck has a lot of burst potential, and you need to plan your lethal even if the opponent still has full health
  • Plan your turns and maximize your damage. With this deck, it’s easy to miss 1 damage, or mess up the available mana for the current turn and the next turn. Plan every one of your moves before executing.
  • Don’t fear to trade a good board for a strong burst. Board control is meaningless if your opponent has no health, so you need to identify when to switch the gear start slinging spells at the opponent
