Deck Import

Face Hunter is easily the most infamous deck in Hearthstone. People criticize the fact that there are few decisions to be made and every cards inevitably goes face. Aggro, however, can be difficult to play and using the deck to its full potential can be a challenge. Face Hunter is also one of the cheapest top tier decks in the game, and gives new players a chance to challenge opponents at any rank. The other great thing about Face Hunter is that games are fast, and being on the winning or losing end of a match is usually apparent within the first five or six turns. Like it or not, decks like Face Hunter keep control decks in check and disallow a super control heavy meta.

Face Hunter has a very fast curve that generally uses no cards over four mana. Animal Companion is a card that can make or break your game depending on which companion you get. Huffer is generally your best bet as it allows you to push fast damage, but there will be times where even Leokk will be the one you are hoping to get. Arcane Golem and Kill Command are great finishers, and Ironbeak Owl gets you passed any pesky taunts.

Face Hunter Deck List Update – April 2016 (Season 25)

Hunter's Mark is a nice addition to the list, this is especially good against Priest which runs Deathlord.

Face Hunter Mulligan Guide and Strategy

You’re looking to keep Leper Gnome, Haunted Creeper, Knife Juggler, and Mad Scientist. Glaivezooka is an okay keep if you have a Leper Gnome already. Hunter's Mark can be kept against Priest for Deathlord. Eaglehorn Bow can be kept against problematic 3-drops like Mana Wyrm and Tunnel TroggIronbeak Owl is a keeper against something like Warrior when you know you’ll be having to get passed a Sludge Belcher

Face Hunter Tech Cards

Leeroy Jenkins can be added for extra destroying power in the later games, although it makes Quick Shot slightly worse because Leeroy has a tendency to sit in your hand if drawn too early. A second Glaivezooka is a possibility, and some players have added Argent Squire because of its ability to stick to the board.

Face Hunter Card Substitutions (Replacements)

Keep in mind that replacements for cards are rarely ever going to be perfect. It’s usually easiest to try and come close to what the card accomplishes, or double up an already existing card in the deck.

Face Hunter Combos and Synergies

Knife Juggler and Unleash the Hounds is a classic Face Hunter combo. A first turn coin into Haunted Creeper into a Knife Juggler is a nice compliment that can sometimes get a cheap kill on a 3/2.

There are times when you might want to hold a beast to make sure you can get a full strength Kill Command. This is especially the case if you’ll have lethal next turn and the beast will basically do nothing this turn.

as of today, if you wanna be a snack for other players who are pushing hard to get a better chest before it resets, please play this deck, you’ll be doing a favor to them, since yesterday here are the results:

me as a secret/aggro pala against faced 14 face hunters:
    14-0 win (ranked)

As of today played 6 games as face hunter 1-5 (ranked) and yep, I know what a mulligan is

It’s not ideal, but if you have no other plays and a free path to face then you can get away with it.

I find Dire Wolf Alpha to be quite useful with this deck. Bear Trap has also helped a lot.

I am running bear trap in my list and it easily causes the most misplays. Love watching warlocks throw out egg before attacking in and getting punished.

Is it worth to change one Arcane Golem for Leeroy Jenkins?

    • Evident - Author
      December 21, 2015 at 9:38 am

The problem with Leeroy is he has a tendency to sit in your hand, and you can only really play him when you can finish the game. That being said, I think you should give it a shot and see how you like it!

I have 1 abusive and 1 explosive trap in the deck. Instead of those two I have 1 bear and 1 freezing trap. It works just perfect to keep the board clean. It is possible to have 2 explosives and 1 bear trap.

  18. MIniFree
    November 18, 2015 at 7:57 pm

I don’t have any of the adventures ( Bellrock, Noxx)….So what would be good replacements for Quick Shot (2), Mad Scientist (2) and Hunted Creeper (2)? Also since I’m not planning on getting the adventures I was wondering if this deck is still good without those 6 cards?

    • Evident - Author
      November 19, 2015 at 9:48 am

You could go 2x Arcane Shot, 2x Argent Squire, and add 1x Glaivezooka and Worgen Infiltrator. Mad Scientist is a super strong card, Haunted Creeper sticks to the board, and Quick Shot is great for finishing opponents. I think the deck would still function, but not at full capacity.

      • MIniFree
        November 19, 2015 at 5:49 pm

I just got the first wing of bellrock, so I do have quick shot now.

        November 19, 2015 at 5:55 pm

Also, do you think I would still need exspolisve trade without Mad Scientist? Yes yes, it would still be good but like rly I would need to use 2 manna to put it down ect.

For those who say that knife juggler can be unnecessary: I run this deck, and you may be right, knife juggler doesn’t always go face which can be annoying, but if it removes their minions it might save you an iron beak to get rid of taunts and actually win you the game a turn earlier! Love this deck BTW

  20. Wabi Sabi
    November 10, 2015 at 10:25 am

You guys should really explore Misdirection and Snake trap. There’s nothing better when alexstrassa smacks your opponent in the face for the win or giants taking each other out vs hand lock 🙂 or snake trap triggers with knife juggler killing the attacker and setting up a win with Leokk. My traps are 1x snake trap 1x ice trap 2 explosive traps 1 x misdirection to great success.

    • Dyfferent
      December 29, 2015 at 1:02 pm

Really liked the snake and misdirection just 2 games of testing and both games won one by snake one by misdirection xD

gonna test those traps, because running explosive is often read… and therefor less useful 🙂 (y)

i run the exact same deck, i read the comments and i wonder whats the best thing to replace creeper? i know they stick to the board but is there anything else a bit more aggressive?

    • Evident - Author
      November 3, 2015 at 5:20 pm

No, that’s a really important card. I know it doesn’t seem aggressive, but the ability to have minions on the board is extremely important.

        November 9, 2015 at 4:29 pm

indeed, while playing it bit more i realised it. totally right i’ll keep it in my deck ^^

For everyone asking to replace Mad Scientists:

You cannot replace them, they are essential to the deck, as they provide a solid body and pull secrets. That again has two benefits: you get it for free and you cannot draw the secret, which makes your topdecks better. Again: you cannot replace them, absolute essential for the deck.

This deck is so good and so cheap, all I needed was to de my millhouse which wasn’t really a problem. currently 8-2, my only loses were against two hunters with the exact same deck!

  28. basedgod
    September 27, 2015 at 10:21 pm

Made it to 300 Legend with this deck!

    but -1 wrogen
    and +1 arcane shot

One health minions die instantly to too many aoe cards like swipe or whirlwind.
Wrogen will die the turn after you attack with him so the most damage he can get in is only 2 anyways. Plus, he can’t get through taunts (priest, handlock, control warrior)so if you don’t draw him early game, he is pretty much a dead draw.
I have won many games by top decking arcane shot and winning where as Wrogen would have lost me the game. In this aoe heavy meta, arcane shot is %100 the better option.
Also, less susceptible to and great for instantly removing cards like knife juggler(secret pally, zoo)

I farmed secret pallys all the way from rank 11 to 300 Legend in just two days! If you aren’t winning with this deck, you aren’t playing it right.

    Missing
    x2 creeper
    x2 mad scientist

What do you recommend i replace them with or get the dust craft a golem or owl

You cant, this deck is basically perfected, you need all of these cards.

  30. Ossirian
    September 25, 2015 at 12:42 pm

I play a slightly more control-ish version with -1 Knife Juggler -1 Worgen Infiltrator -1 Eaglehorn Bow for +1 Glaivezooka(didn’t have a 2nd bow) and +2 Webspinner. I mostly did it to cover bad draws and for those games where the opponent manages to deal with the rush. Doesn’t always work but it does make the deck a little more fun.

    • frasnap
      September 25, 2015 at 10:16 pm

I’d try Houndmasters if you’re running more beasts!

    • IamJuiceBox
      December 20, 2015 at 8:40 pm

You could try Hybrid Hunter then. It has the same agressive start as face hunter, but also has some late-game cards that can help you win the game *cough cough* Savanah Highmane

  31. FlushedGoldBR
    September 24, 2015 at 7:42 pm

But NEVER recommend this deck for beginners. Even though its cost-benefit ratio is (probably) the best for constructed, and climbing the ladder with a deck this cheap is tempting, it inevitably over-simplifies the potential strategy and the complexity of the whole game for new players. Midrange, imho, is always the best choice to begin understanding Hearthstone as a whole.

  32. FlushedGoldBR
    September 24, 2015 at 7:33 pm

I still don’t get it about the Creepers.

Ok, it has synergy with the Juggler, and kinda has it with Kill Command (since the Creeper is a Beast, but the Spectral Spiders are not, and the only other beasts in the deck are the Owl and the summons from Animal Companion or Unleash the Hounds). I just don’t think it’s approach isn’t aggro enough for this deck: it can’t trade with almost anything, the face damage from this card is almost never substantial in comparison to the other minions, and it’s deathrattle doesn’t help with this deck intentions. Thinking about changing one or two Creepers for Dire Wolf Alpha to keep the synergy with Kill Command and establish more face damage earlier.

Furthermore, this deck is being awesome in Ladder. It has only two nightmares: Late game taunts and late game heals, since you are always topdecking in turns 5-7 and almost never have some answer against both. Another thing that bugs me is that it only takes two or three matches against Face Hunter to understand it and to understand how to stop it. Mirror matches are thrilling, though, since it’s a race for damage.

    • OverB
      September 24, 2015 at 10:14 pm

I use one snake trap, and bear trap on top of my one explosive trap. Extra beasts for command.

  33. John
    September 17, 2015 at 3:12 pm

I got rid of Creepers as they are two slow Second Glaivezooka and Argent Rider currently 7-0

I need to replace the Knife Juggler i dread seeing him in my hand as I go for face and he usually one shots minions so pretty useless also the 3-2 stats means he rarely gets to attack face

    • Jodien
      September 19, 2015 at 12:31 am

You are right about Creepers but Knife Juggler is generally effective when coined in on turn 1. You always expect your opponent to waste a removal for him in turn 2. If he does not, you instantly have a great advantage. Your turn 2 cards like Glaivezooka, Creepers, Scientist will always help the Juggler to its full potetial. Also a 5 mana UtH + KJ combo against an opponent with 3 minions is like a half-win.

What really gives me headaches with this deck is against decks that use Defender of Argus. In the current meta, almost everyone is using it. I try to play around it by letting only 1 minion in front of the opponent by turn 4.

      • FlushedGoldBR
        September 24, 2015 at 7:50 pm

Defender of Argus gives me headaches too, I always want to save my Owls for big taunts like Belchers, but I often have to use them to ensure my Kill Command is used at its best since there are only four cards in the deck that can put a Beast on the board.

What if I don’t have enough money or don’t want to spend real money for all of the naxxramas quarter. How am I suppose to get the mad scientist or what should I sub for it

    • Evident - Author
      September 16, 2015 at 5:58 pm

Second Worgen Infiltrator and second Glaivezooka, but Mad Scientist is a really powerful card. I would save up your gold to get Naxxramas.

  35. Graldin
    September 16, 2015 at 3:17 pm

I subbed in a Kezan Mystic for one of the Argent Horsemen. Often it saves the game.

    • John
      September 17, 2015 at 3:27 pm

How does it save the game?

Mostly would work against mages but any other decks it’s a dead card.

Still might try it instead of the knife juggler who is seldom used in my FH

  36. Swordwarmer
    September 12, 2015 at 4:11 pm

I love this deck. I was thinking of using a Lance Carrier, but the Haunted Creepers are sticky. They also provide synergy with Kill Command.

  37. Leamus
    September 12, 2015 at 9:34 am

For the people thinking about using Leroy he is too slow for the deck. Arcane + hero is a better play for same damage. Unleash plus Leroy is turn 8 and you should have won already. He clogs your hand so you can’t play quick shot. 5 mana is too much.

    • OverB
      September 24, 2015 at 10:10 pm

    • Evident - Author
      September 8, 2015 at 10:31 am

It’s part of the Blackrock Mountain Adventure. You can’t craft cards from Adventure Mode (only gold ones, if you already own them), you can purchase each wing with gold or money. Quick Shot is in the first wing of BRM, which would cost you 700 gold.

    • Sam

Maybe Wolfrider if you’re going exactly off the list above. Or Flare for the card draw

  42. Siberian
    September 3, 2015 at 4:30 am

Nice deck, I’m missing the Arcane Golems at the moment.

So I’ve tossed in a Mukla’s Champion which I’ve found works pretty solid if you have a few small minions on the board or combo it with a unleash the hounds late game.

Fiddling with what else to put in, I’ve got a Armored Warhorse right now, but that seems silly since I’ve only had the charge work a few times (and of those it was only because Mukla popped up).

Still wins matches, but I’ll probably just unlock a Golem with dust soon and use that.

    • Sandmankind
      October 7, 2015 at 4:51 pm

I don’t have any golems either. I’ve been thinking about crafting a couple , but I’ve seen them turn the game in the opponent’s favor if you play it too early. Anyone think Argent Commander is a better option? Or is the cost just too high?

      • bloOg
        November 23, 2015 at 4:10 pm

Most games with this deck are over/decided by turn 5/6 when Commander even comes online so he’ll have a tendency to sit in your hand and make Quick Shot harder to use. Some games he could end up being very good but 6-mana cards kinda defeat the purpose of a super aggro deck like Face Hunter.
