The Lost City of Un’Goro Key Art

New Mechanic – Kindred

Elemental minion type was first introduced in the original Journey to Un’Goro back in 2017. Their unique mechanic is getting an extra effect if you played an Elemental last turn. It means that chaining together Elemental minions was very important, otherwise you might have missed on some powerful bonus effects.

The new “Kindred” keyword works exactly the same, but for all minion types. For example, if you play a Beast with Kindred (such as Ravasaur Matriarch), it will follow the same formula but for Beasts (“If you played Beast last turn, do X”).

And that’s not all – Kindred also works for spell schools. For example, the new Kindred spell Gravedawn Voidbulb will cast twice if you played a Shadow spell on previous turn. We had a few decks focused on a specific Spell School in the past, but they were quite rare overall; this new keyword might change that.

Returning Mechanic – Quests

Quests are making a return! Also dating back to the original Un’Goro, the last time we saw them was in Saviors of Uldum expansion in 2019. Quests are 1-Cost spells that always start in your hand. Each Quests asks you to do some task; after you finish it, you get a powerful reward.

Unlike Questlines from United in Stormwind, Quests are “one and done” – there are no multiple steps. But remember that you need to play the Quest from your hand first for the progress to count.

Each class is getting one new Quest in The Lost City of Un’Goro. So far, both of the Quests revealed follow the original formula – they reward you with a 5 mana 8/8 with a powerful effect. We don’t know whether other Quests will also do the same, but it’s very likely.

@Stonekeep you mention that there will be 145 cards in total, but the graphics showcase 146 cards — specifically, 10 cards for each of the 11 classes (which adds up to 110 cards) plus 36 neutral cards, totaling 146. Could you please clarify where the mistake might be?

Isn’t this about that event card? Bc this isn’t part of the set, but was listed as such. Sharp-Eyed Lookout…

Do you mean ‘Endbringer Umbra’? She’s from the Lost City of Un’Goro set, just like ‘Blob of Tar’ and ‘Dissolving Ooze’.

There are 145 cards in The Lost City of Un’Goro (just like in any other expansion).

But I added Sharp-Eyed Lookout to this list since it’s also a new card releasing soon and I thought it would be nice for people to see it. It will be available from an in-game event in a couple of weeks. I explain it under the “Neutral Epics” section.

So there are 145 Un’Goro cards + 1 Event card here (for 146 in total).

But thank you for paying close attention to details like that 🙂

Why ‘Tortollan’ didn’t become a minion type we will never know…

We probably don’t have enough of them for it to make sense, and the ones already in game have no tribal synergies. They could probably force them in this expansion, but maybe it didn’t make sens design-wise.

Quilboar also didn’t make sense but they were getting added to Battlegrounds so Blizzard just decided to slap the minion type on Constructed cards as well for consistency 😀

Which makes me think, maybe it’s finally time for a new minion type in BG…

        Surely Draenei are next.
The only class card background currently not used in BG is from Priest, and I’m sure Draenei would get the Priest coloured background.

That’s the point, I’m thinking ‘consistency’ here. In my humble oppinion, every HS minion that has a creature type should have at least one creature type. 😉 But yeah, we shouldn’t overburden the development team…
