Mulligans
Aggro Mulligans
It's extremely important to mulligan for early board presence or a board clear against aggro to avoid getting run over. I would advise keeping Reno in hand, especially if you have a twilight drake in hand also. Against the hunter matchup, its extremely important to get eater of secrets early. Don't be afraid to Renounce Darkness if you are losing board control and have a bunch of klunky cards in your hand.
Control Mulligans
The control matchup is much easier for this deck, as it gets big minions out quickly to control the board, and has a 32 damage combo to finish. Just keep up pressure and control the board until you can burst the opponent down with cards like Power Overwhelming.
Handlock has always been a strong deck in the Hearthstone meta, and with the advent of Reno Jackson, it has only gotten stronger. This deck features enough board controls to deal with the onslaught of aggro decks in the meta, and can tempo out huge minions like, Twilight Drake with large taunts to stop aggro in its tracks. The 32 damage combo takes good care of the few control decks also, fitting extremely well in the meta.
General Mulligan Guide and Strategy
Doomsayer, Imp Gang Boss, and Twilight Drake are the main targets for your mulligan. These cards will generally help you control the board to develop more dangerous threats later in the game. A common strategy with this deck is to hero power, hero power, Twilight Drake . However, this can be dangerous against tempo based decks with cheap removal like Hex and Deadly Shot .
General Strategy
As a slow deck, you will generally lose the early game. One of the most important parts of playing this deck is mulliganing based on your opponent. If your opponent is playing an aggressive deck, make sure you mulligan aggressively for early drops (Sunfury Protector,Earthen Ring Farseer) or board clears (Doomsayer, Demonwrath). Also, if you are playing against hunter, hard mulligan for Eater of Secrets, as this card will single handedly win you board control against secret hunters. Also, if you have both Twilight Drake and Reno Jackson, I would keep both, as you can hero power into a strong Twilight Drake turn, and then full heal with Reno Jackson. Just make sure you’ve drawn Power Overwhelming too! The control matchup is much easier to play. Mulligan for threats like Twilight Drake and Imp Gang Boss.
The mid game is all about fighting for board control. Use your cheap board clears (Hellfire , Shadowflame ) and strong mid game minions (Azure Drake, Sylvanas Windrunner) to control the board. This deck cares less about hitting the face, and cares more about contesting the board.
This deck has two main win conditions. The first, and most likely, will be getting big value from minions like Mountain Giant and Ragnaros the Firelord once you control the board. Also, Medivh, the Guardian is a huge value tool, and a win condition in his own right. Use Medivh, the Guardian and Twisting Nether together to clear the board and get a huge minion. The other win condition is the 32 damage combo, using two Power Overwhelming and one Abusive Sergeant on Leeroy Jenkins, then use Faceless Manipulator on Leeroy Jenkins. Note, you need to use Emperor Thaurissan to lower the cost of three of the combo pieces for this to work.
I hope you like my deck! Please comment if you have any questions or suggestions about the deck!
