Deck Import

This deck basically uses a combination of multiple value tools and sustain to be able to outlast/keep up with control and persevere against all types of aggro. I’m currently 10-1 after trying the deck for about an hour and a half, the one game I dropped was to a very greedy priest deck.

The main playstyle is using Aldor Peacekeeper, Righteous Protector, Ooze, Burnbristle, Corpsetaker, and Hydrologist for early-game tempo and board control, while persevering into the late game to get huge value-generation tools like Lich King, Tirion, and Uther of the Ebon Blade out.

Uther seems like a weird card at first, but the goal of the card isn’t really to kill your opponent with the four horses. The 5/3 weapon with Lifesteal is a whopping 15 health gain and 15 damage for removal, and he gives you 5 armor. This card turns your hero power to a 2/2 as well, meaning that playing Uther makes you gain an effective 20 health, deal 15 damage, and makes one of your best value-generation tools – hero power – a competitive late-game ability.

Some of the other cards (Steed, Bonemare) should be pretty obvious because they are staples for any sort of midrange or control decklist.

I consider this deck a mix between midrange and control that I like to call Value. This deck gets the best of both worlds, and overall just uses a lot of very persistent or high value cards and effects to win the game effectively.

The one questionable card choice, and one that I am considering removing (though it’s worked for me thus far) is Lost in the Jungle. I’ve experimented with it and Fire Fly as a tempo tool and a tool to get big board swings with Tarim, but have never really felt content with either in the deck, but without them Tarim feels like a worse card. If anyone has any ideas for other things to run I’m all ears.

There are of course other questionable card choices such as the Bone Drake, something that people don’t see that often, but I found that having a tempo turn 6 play as well as a card to pull from the Curator was actually really nice during games. Tarim is of course usually not a card played for tempo so having something to play on 6 and follow up with the Bonemare on seven has made me pull ahead on the board in many a game. The random dragon can sometimes be very useful and give you some different options, as well.

Chillblade is there for the Corpsetaker. Corpsetaker is, frankly, an absolutely insane card that is worth a rather sub-par card in the death to activate the lifesteal for it.

Basically, this deck is a puzzle with many pieces. The “pieces” in this deck are the following:

  • Sustain (any lifesteal or lifegain, including Burnbristle, Truesilver, Chillblade, Corpsetaker, Lightlord, and Uther)
  • Tempo/Board (Righteous, Hydrologist, Aldor, Ooze, Burnbristle, Corpsetaker, Kodo, Bone Drake, Primordial Drake)
  • Value/Value Generation (Lich King, Tirion, Uther, Curator, Bonemare, Spikeridged, Tarim)
  • Curator Playset (Kodo, Hydrologist, Bone Drake, Primordial Drake)
  • Corpsetaker (Burnbristle, Chillblade, Tirion, Righteous)
