Mulligans

General Mulligans

Classical early game - tempo cards to get you started and contest board

Aggro Mulligans

Volcanic Potion and Tar Creeper are excellent tools to stall aggro decks in the early turns.

As well as the Doomsayer, which can be used on turn 2 to slow down the most aggressive decks.

Midrange Mulligans

The mulligan for Midrange is the same for Aggro, as the Midrange deck in this meta are more aggressive than control oriented

Combo Mulligans

The Combo mulligan is also the same as the Control, since the main combo deck (Miracle Rogue) is more late game oriented, so you have time in the early game to generate resources.

Control Mulligans

Acrane Intellect is of course useful against Control matchups to start generating resources in hand and prepare for the mid-late game.

Kazakus can also be kept, mainly because is efficent to play on curve, and gives you the opportunity to set up a nice turn 5 spell.

Update:

– Replaced Spellbender with Counterspell to counter Jade Druid’s big spells (try to go for Ultimate Infestation).

– Replaced Skulking Geist with Alexstrasza, since the Geist revealed to be too underperforming for the cost, while the option to burn the Jade Druids down with Alexstrasza + Pyroblast + ecc… was a lot more viable.

– Replaced Flamestrike with Baron Geddon (This is not a cheap replacement and not extremely necessary).

Early-Mid Game

Control the board using your removal tools and your early minions, till you reach turn 7-8 when you actually become dangerous. The deck has a lot of techs, very useful to come out alive from unpleasent situations.

Kazakus is of course a very powerful tool for the Mid-Late game, which gives you the power to stabilize the board/hand with a spell specific for the situation.

Late Game

For your turn 8 you have three big drops to choose from: The Lich King and Medivh, The Guardian  are your best choices because they give you a relatively immediate value. (You want to keep Sindragosa  for a late combo with Jaina‘s Hero Power)

After that your main goal will be to keep having more value on board and hand than your opponent, which is not really hard considering the tools this deck gives.

Try to take the most value possible from Medivh, The Guardian (ex. Fireland’s Portal , Pyroblast).

Keeping The Lich King alive more than one turn may be hard, but if the board is well controlled and with the help of Spellbender is possible, and allows you to generate a lot of value.

With Frost Lich Jaina your main goal will obviously be to last-hit the enemy minions (or your own minions if convenient), the elementals will take care of keeping you alive with their lifesteal.

Pyros will be a nice weapon as well for your late game, being an elemental with a very solid body.

Mind Control Tech saved my life more than one time in difficult late game situations, so try to keep him for the right moment.

Tips:

vs Warlock: Try to keep your removal for when Bloodreaver Gul’Dan , to remove his demons ASAP. You often win by out-valuing him during fatigue.

vs Jade Druid: Use Skulking Geist to eliminate the late game problem, but try to remove all the threats he summons to keep you alive till fatigue, or alternatively you can try to burn him out with Pyroblast after having hurt him enough with your minions.

vs Pirate Warrior: Count on your early removals and controlling tools, expecially Kazakus.

vs Paladin: Same tactic of removing board and generating late value.

vs Rogue: You beat him hard in the late game, remove the mid game threaths and you are cool.

vs Shaman: Survive till the late game by board clearing, and making him run out of resources.

vs Priest: Use your value smartly, because he has so much late game potential and can be a trouble with his DK Hero Power, also Pyroblast can be useful to try to burn him out.

vs Mage: As always, it’s a race to who procs the enemy’s Ice Block first, so try to go kind of aggressive.

 Conclusion

I had a very positive winrate with this deck, surprisingly also vs Jade Druid (even without Skulking Geist), mainly because the resources you generate are often too much for the enemy to control.

Keep in mind that Kazakus decks are not easy to master (because of the limited number of cards), but I hope this guide will be clear enough to help you get started.

I’ll wait comments and suggestions, bye! 🙂

I guess Thalnos or maybe even the cheaper Loot Hoarder could somehow be suitable replacements for the 2 slot, and could help cycling the deck. Obviously you will lose the 6-10 drop potential and the Elemental synergy.
