Mulligans
I’ve always loved the Hunter Quest/playing anti-meta and this is my favorite build atm. It’s not for climbing the ladder, but you’ll have fun being one of the few and the proud still playing quests in 2018. Mulligan – always keep Prince as he helps survive early game (though he’s even more fun post-Quest!) and almost always keep Tracking (to get Prince, or Gorgon if you have Prince to dup him turn 3 – in this case you can play this turn 1 which also saves the quest reveal until turn 4 which throw off strategizing). Otherwise, you’ll usually want to keep Fire Fly and Gibberer (can play him turn 1 instead of Quest if you go first and you’re not against mage, rogue, or druid). From there you just play off what you’ve got and here are some general synergies and strategies: 1) Holding onto Hunter’s Mark + Archer in case of a board clear; 2) Acherus + Squire; 3) Gibberer + Shard; 4) Stitched Tracker – situation dependent, but Fire Fly, Gorgon, Warden, Creeper, Rhino (post-quest), and Carnassa’s Brood (post-quest) can all be clutch at different points (DON’T dup Prince as he’ll still be in your deck and will negate the battlecry); 5) Gorgon – also situation dependent, but Prince, Fire Fly (great on turn 4), Gibberer, Creeper, Queen Carnassa (if you don’t finish the quest until turn 8 because 15 raptors = still not enough raptors!), Carnassa’s Brood to keep a card draw going, etc.; 6) Rhino + Brood/Creeper is a finisher, Rhino + Carnassa is nice if you somehow get to turn 10 or have a dup; 7) Death Knight is for board clearing (can combine w/Hunter’s Mark on turn 7) + alil armor vs. face decks and the chance to build a lifesteal beast, another rhino, a silence beast, or whatever you need at the moment. There are also plenty of sub options as I’ve been rocking the quest even before I saved up for those legendaries – raptor hatchling frees up some deck space with its deathrattle, another archer can be nice, fiery bat can be handy with Hunter’s Mark and some luck, bloodsail corsair with all the weapons out there, loot hoarder for the card draw, and knife juggler or grevious bite or some secrets can help you survive early on (explosive trap and/or wandering monster). This thing is always a work in progress so I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have fun and k-k-k-keep on quest’n in the New Year 😀
