Mulligans

General Mulligans

Your number one keepers in all matchups are Darnassus Aspirant, Brann Bronzebeard, Twilight Guardian, Wild Growth, and Innervate.

Twilight dragon is generally the only dragon you want to mulligan for. If he is not in your opener, feel free to throw back more expensive dragons to get him. If he is, you may want to consider keeping an azure drake to make sure he is able to activate. That being said, dragons will come eventually. Always throw back your 9 cost dragons, as they will more than likely be dead weight for much of the game.

Aggro Mulligans

Against aggro your number one goal is to keep yourself alive and keep the board clear. As usual you want to have your ramp pieces and your twilight guardian, but you also want to actively mulligan for removal.

Don't keep Brann unless you're feeling really lucky, as aggro will have no problem killing him. If your opener happens to be something along the lines of innervate, innervate, brann, darnassus, feel free to keep him, but dream openers like that are rare.

Control Mulligans

The mulls against control don't differ much from your general mull, however, you can be a little greedier. You still don't want to start with nefarian or the dragon aspects, but if you happen to have a Twilight guardian in hand, It won't hurt to keep one of them.

If you're going first and have to make the choice between wild growth and darnassus aspirant, throw back the aspirant. It is not the worst thing in the world to keep aspirant against control, but it is also very likely that it will be removed as soon as you play it.

Brann is a lot better against control than he is against aggro. That 4 health can be quite difficult for control to get over in the first 3 turns, where as aggro will have no problem storming it down.

If you start with at least one innervate then you can consider holding onto a nourish as well. Otherwise you probably want to mull for more ramp.

Dragons are epic. This is a fact of life. But unfotunately, the coolest dragons cannot be played until turn 9 in most cases. That’s where druid comes in. Through a combination of Brann BronzebeardInnervateNourish, and Darnassus Aspirant, you can have your dragon aspects out as early as turn 4. While that does assume a perfect start with 0 removal, the deck can frequently drop an Alexstrasza or Ysera turn 7. Druid also offers a very large amount of card draw and fairly decent removal, meaning that if you don’t start with the cards you need, you’ll definitely survive to get them. All in all this is an insanely fun deck, and worth giving a try if you have the time.

Please leave your experiences and recommendations, I read every comment.

Dragons Have a lot of options for finishers, not just Alexstrasza and Ysera.

Nozdormu is a very fun card. I can’t honestly say that he is an amazing card, or even a good one, but he is fun. If you have him, consider shooting him a glance every now and again. Just hope your opponent doesn’t abuse him.

Deathwing is insanely strong, but of course he comes with an insane draw back. That being said, of all the end game substitutions you can make, Deathwing is probably the most devestating. If you are playing against a lot of midgame and late game decks, give Deathwing a glance. Once they finished setting up their board, plop down a Deathwing and watch them cry. Use with caution.

Malygos is probably not worth it unless you are really stingy with your swipes. That said, If you should decide to put him in, swap out Alexstrasza for him. Ysera has the chance to give more damaging spells.

Nefarian is a solid choice for all dragon decks. His effect can be insanely strong, pulling the top cards from each class. Even if he pulls nothing, that’s still more cards than you had before. He also synergizes with Brann and Malygos(if you decided to put him in) insanely well. That said, his effect can be very risky. If you are not averse to chance, give him a try.

If you lack dragons but have dust, the most important ones you can craft are Alexstrasza and Ysera, as they have the most value in and out of dragon decks.

If you’re feeling greedy you can consider dropping an Ancient of Lore or Chillmaw for another high drop dragon.

Community Recommendations:

I read every comment and will try to test out every recommendation to the best of my collection’s abilities. The list is constantly updating, so feel free to drop a comment and tell me what you’d change.

Big Game Hunter was added to the main list and 1 Nourish was dropped thanks to community recommendation

Chillmaw has been added to the main list and Nefarian has been moved down to substitutions thanks to community recommendation.

Looking into removing the second Nourish from the list. In truth it is a tad bit unnecessary, but the chance for explosive plays with it makes the deck feel a little more exciting to me. That said, another BGH or a Starfall wouldn’t hurt.

I used Dragon Druid shortly after the first two wings of LoE were out and piloted the deck as high as rank 1 in the November 2015 season. I quickly removed the Nourishes though, they always felt slow and while the card draw is nice, you often find yourself with nothing to play on that turn which sets you back on the board and as a druid you usually lack the comeback mechanics to fight back from behind.

That being said, I always played 2 Big Game Hunter in this deck because of how hard it is to deal with a Dr. Boom or several Giants, Mal’Ganis or Ragnaros. Even against aggressive decks like Hunter or Zoo, it’s still a good tempo play on turn 3 and against decks with BGH targets you definitely want to have one in hand as soon as it hits the board because it’s difficult to deal with those otherwise.

Also, three 9-drops seems a bit too much. I found myself already struggling with only two (Ysera and Alex) and instead of Nefarian I had a Chillmaw. Three of those finishers are a bit too greedy for my taste.

I get the feeling behind not wanting nourish. I did test a list with them for a few games after Cameldd recommended, and while the deck felt stronger on the perfect run, it didn’t feel as consistent. I think I’d still prefer at least one. That said, I do think I’ll update the list to remove a nourish permanently.
I do recommend Chillmaw, but I don’t think he’s so amazing that he should be required. You can definitely drop nefarian for him, and maybe alex. That said, he’s probably the most important sub you can make.

    hey!

Nice idea of deck, I’m really enjoying playing it! The name is great, reminds me of MTG ahah

After some testing thou, everytime I get Nourish on my hand it doesn’t really feel that helpfull. We already have Lores for the draws and darnassus + wild growth for the extra mana. I understand the extra boost it grants but 5 mana seems way too much.

I’d rather apply some more early game with living roots or even a bgh, but i guess in the ends it’s all about opinions and ladder position maybe!

Great guide and explanation towards the Dragon Storm mulligans and deck strategy!! 😀

    Cheers and keep it up!!

Thanks dude. As you said the name is actually based on that mtg deck. It was my first real deck.
As far as nourish goes I’ll look into playing without it. Part of why I like it is that it lets me play a 2 mana spell after I add the mana crystals. I definitely wouldn’t drop more than 1. I’m going to edit the deck for BGH as a sub card btw, thank you for the recommendation.
